An interesting historical theme is how both Japan and Germany saw Brazil as a "settler colonial laboratory." Japanese settlers in Brazil acted as part of the broader imperial project and promoted settler colonial visions in Southeast Asia in the 1930s and 1940s.

Tipu was historically progressive. Eviscerated petty rentiers of South India in his conquests & laid the groundwork for the ryotwari system, which allowed for private ownership of land w/o rents due to any middlemen unlike the zamindari system which predominated in rest of India.

The demographic revolution of the Late Ottoman Levant. Muslim refugees arriving from Crimea & Balkans were able to obtain private land titles, grow cash crops, and prosper. Christians struggled with feudal system + decline of old crafts & trade routes, causing many to emigrate.
