While the CETP has driven a historic reduction in fossil financing, progress on clean energy finance is far slower. Less than 1/5 of the funds shifted from fossil fuels were redirected to clean energy, and the clean energy finance isn’t reaching countries who need it most.

NEW: Our new research shows public finance for fossil fuels from @CETP_Sec countries has dropped 78% in 2024 compared to 2019-21 - a drop of $11.3–16.3 billion/yr!

This shows that CETP is working - an example of international action to tackle fossil finance!

🚨New research🚨Rich countries can unlock $6.6 trillion for climate action by ending fossil fuels handouts, making polluters pay, defunding wars, taxing the super rich. There’s no shortage of $$ for action. It’s just in the wrong hands.

"COP30’s credibility rests on how it confronts this ambition gap. Attempts to spin COP30 as a success without such a response seem hollow. If COP30 must respond to this ambition gap, a cover decision emerges as the most credible path forward."
