The helium hydride ion, hydridohelium(1+) ion, or helonium is a cation (positively charged ion) with chemical formula HeH+. It consists of a helium atom bonded to a hydrogen atom, with one electron removed. It can also be viewed as protonated helium. It is the lightest heteronuclear ion, and is believed to be the first compound formed in the Universe after the Big Bang. The ion was first produced in a laboratory in 1925. It is stable in isolation, but extremely reactive, and cannot be prepared in bulk, because it would react with any other molecule with which it came into contact. Noted as the strongest known acid—stronger than even fluoroantimonic acid—its occurrence in the interstellar medium had been conjectured since the 1970s, and it was finally detected in April 2019 using the airborne SOFIA telescope.

Back then thinking noble gases are so selfish they don't want anyone in their field of view or going overboard by dying out in microseconds & while it is true, a few years ago, I didn't know that it is possible for them to form compounds. It makes sense that most of them are with Fluorine though.

Xenon fluorides react with several other fluorides to form fluoroxenates, such as sodium octafluoroxenate(VI) ((Na+)2[XeF8]2−),[citation needed] and fluoroxenonium salts, such as trifluoroxenonium hexafluoroantimonate ([XeF3]+[SbF6]−) In terms of other halide reactivity, short-lived excimers of noble gas halides such as XeCl2 or XeCl are prepared in situ, and are used in the function of excimer lasers. Recently,[when?] xenon has been shown to produce a wide variety of compounds of the type XeOnX2 where n is 1, 2 or 3 and X is any electronegative group, such as CF3, C(SO2CF3)3, N(SO2F)2, N(SO2CF3)2, OTeF5, O(IO2F2), etc.; the range of compounds is impressive, similar to that seen with the neighbouring element iodine, running into the thousands and involving bonds between xenon and oxygen, nitrogen, carbon, boron and even gold, as well as perxenic acid, several halides, and complex ions. The compound [Xe2]+[Sb4F21]− contains a Xe–Xe bond, which is the longest element-element bond known (308.71 pm = 3.0871 Å). Short-lived excimers of Xe2 are reported to exist as a part of the function of excimer lasers.

Launch of Helios 1 took place at 2:11 a.m. EST Dec. 10, 1974, from Launch Complex 41 at Cape Canaveral Air Force, now Space Force, Station, on a Titan IIIE-Centaur rocket. This marked the first successful flight of this rocket, at the time the most powerful in the world, following the failure of the Centaur upper stage during the rocket’s inaugural launch on Feb. 11, 1974. The successful launch of Helios 1 provided confidence in the Titan IIIE-Centaur, needed to launch the Viking orbiters and landers to Mars in 1976 and the Mariner Jupiter-Saturn, later renamed Voyager, spacecraft in 1977 to begin their journeys through the outer solar system. The Centaur upper stage placed Helios 1 into a solar orbit with a period of 190 days, with its perihelion, or closest point to the Sun, well inside the orbit of Mercury. Engineers activated the spacecraft’s 10 instruments within a few days of launch, with the vehicle declared fully operational on Jan. 16, 1975. On March 15, Helios 1 reached its closest distance to the Sun of 28.9 million miles, closer than any other previous spacecraft – Mariner 10 held the previous record during its three Mercury encounters. Helios 1 also set a spacecraft speed record, traveling at 148,000 miles per hour at perihelion. Parts of the spacecraft reached a temperature of 261 degrees Fahrenheit, but the instruments continued to operate without problems. During its second perihelion on Sept. 21, temperatures reached 270 degrees, affecting the operation of some instruments. Helios 1 continued to operate and return useful data until both its primary and backup receivers failed and its high-gain antenna no longer pointed at Earth. Ground controllers deactivated the spacecraft on Feb. 18, 1985, with the last contact made on Feb. 10, 1986. NASA has confirmed that its Parker Solar Probe has survived its record-breaking closest approach to the solar surface. The incident occurred on 24 December where it flew some 6.1 million kilometres above the surface of the Sun – well within the orbit of Mercury. A “beacon tone” that was received on 26 December with further telemetry taken on 1 January confirmed that the spacecraft not only survived but also executed the commands that had been pre-programmed into its flight computers before the flyby. The Parker Solar Probe – named after physicist Eugene Parker who was born in 1927 and made several breakthroughs of our understanding of the solar wind and also explained why the Sun’s corona is hotter than its surface – was launched in 2018 from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The mission carries four instruments including magnetometers, an imager and two dedicated particle analysers. To withstand the intense temperatures, which can reach almost 1400°C, the spacecraft and instruments are protected by a 11.4 cm carbon-composite shield. During the mission’s seven-year lifespan, it will perform 24 orbits around the Sun with the next close solar passes occurring on 22 March and 19 June. Data transmission from the first pass in December will begin later this month when the spacecraft and its most powerful onboard antenna are in better alignment with Earth to transmit at higher data rates.
