Grief asks us to pause, to rest, to remember, with all the love we gave to that which was lost. To let the waves of sadness wash us clean. Acceptance also comes in waves, and is not the final stage, but a journey unto itself, as we build our lives around the vacant spaces of our hearts. 1/2…

I completed this #embroidery #portrait of her, from a favorite photo. It’s stitched in hand dyed wool w vintage scraps, stitched onto a piece of a favorite old sweater

Thank you for sharing my story, and for bringing attention to the ongoing genocide in Gaza, Palestine. It is a moral obligation and duty for all people, especially doctors and healthcare workers, to speak up and demand an end to genocide and apartheid.

Dr. Yipeng Ge’s Prescription for Injustices: Speak Up - Sampan
When Dr. Yipeng Ge stood in solidarity with Palestinians, he, like so many others in academia, faced swift backlash. Here's the story of the doctor who took a deep dive into Palestine.

So much beauty in picture book form!
I’m especially interested in this one as I’ve gradually built up a really great bereavement collection over the years.
Every now and then someone comes along asking for some books to help their child deal with death and then we’re very lucky to have such books.

Just saw a post from an author (I forget who, sorry!) talking about not being afraid to celebrate success. I agree but I also think one of the problems with social media is that people only post the good stuff, and it creates an unrealistic narrative. Sharing our failures is just as important. 🧵

Publishing (like life) is not a straight upwards trajectory. There are plenty of disappointments and setbacks along the way. In 2021 I scrapped an entire finished book after my dad died because it wasn't working, and I simply couldn't go back and edit it. It was too painful.

This summer I lost my mum. Once again, I couldn't finish the book I was writing. I just had no enthusiasm for it any more. Both times, I felt like a failure, like I was letting my publishers down. Damn it, why couldn't I just power through?

But both times, I knew in my heart, it was the right decision. I'm not someone who can phone it in. Grief paralysed me for a while, and then it changed what I wanted to write. Now, I'm working on an idea I love, one I had put on the back burner, and it's making me happy again.

Of course, shout about the wins. Definitely! But it's not all fancy book launches and bestsellers. Not every book will do well. Sometimes we fall down. And it's good to talk about that too. So, erm, that's it, really. Let's all celebrate being failures! 😁
