I took geomorphology from Roger Hooke here at UMaine. It was a tough class. But I was left with an indelible impression that humans were outpacing all other geomorphologic (and climatic) processes. Will never forget that.

My hope is that your students will leave your class feeling empowered.

RIP to the incomparable Jane Goodall, who embodied the best of humanity.

Her rich legacy included becoming friends with Gary Larson after he drew this cartoon. (She was delighted by it, even though many at the time thought it was terribly offensive to her.)

The GRFP announcement from NSF cuts out an entire cohort of 2nd year students from consideration, without warning. This is so deeply unfair that it warrants a formal protest from the scientific community. If someone wants to work with me to craft an open letter and solicit signatures, LMK.
