Amy, there's no need to pain over achieve! A lego would've sufficed!

Though seriously *ouch*! That sucks! I'm sorry!

That storm is killer.

I forgot, I also do a lot of quiet mutual aid on socials out here.

But I have legit been asking myself if anything I did would feel meaningful and if this is mostly in my head and my own insecurities. I've said before that for some people, merely surviving is resistance. I do believe that.

But I'm not really willing to apply it to myself and don't know why.

It's hard to feel like playing a support role matters in the face of stuff like this for me sometimes.
ICE tear gassed a bunch of children on Saturday. This was a massive escalation of force. They were shooting tear gas at the back of the crowd, it took these unmasked people maybe 3-5 minutes in the cloud of tear gas to escape in without trampling. www.theverge.com/policy/87278...
ICE is afraid of children protesting
“Next time, I’ll be back with a gas mask.”

The anthropology fan in me is twitching something ferocious.

Random but in Naomi Novik's Temeraire series there's hints that those folks managed a better go of it than we got.

During the time of the Napoleonic wars in those books I think Tecumseh is the US President if I remember correctly.

Pretty much agree on all points. Fun fact, colonists going to kick it with the indigenous was such a known thing that Franklin wrote about it and apparently contrasted positive cultural aspects amongst them with negative ones in his own and Europe.

Cooking took about a 1.5 hrs with prep and clean up. If I'd had an assistant to delegate that to or the 1.5 hr shopping time before that that's an additional 3 hours on top of the 2 someone cleaning would've helped with. That would've functionally added 5 hrs to my day.

If I had someone just take over cleaning the bathroom that's 2 hours that'd have been freed up

Also, never believe that "we all have the same 24 hours in a day." No the hell we don't. Speaking as someone who is pretty good at managing his time but does still get tired and distracted when you have multiple people helping you the hours actually expand dramatically!

This is why our moms were always tired ya'll!

Oh, I also meal prepped today on top of grocery shopping. I should be *done* >.<

It's a good thing I actually like this *and* it's gotta get done or I'd be big mad.

Our cultural mythology doesn't give us a frame work and in fact, what we do have actively complicates the matter.

Only one show I watched as a young man mentioned the 1918 pandemic and that was Leverage.

I think Americans have a real hard time with traumas that impact us directly. Other pandemics or tragedies that happen, "over there" don't bother us but when it hits home we don't process well as a culture.

I'm reminded of how everyone just kind of pretended the 1918 flu pandemic didn't happen... and how it left us societally unprepared for covid and how this will leave us societally unprepared for the next one of these over and over.
