One of the fun things about working on #Ha-Nahn is that all the leaders of the major nations at this point in the story are female (this isn't usually the case for matrilineal societies and a lot of the time they have male figureheads with women power brokers in other ways). But...

Not a Ha-Nahn piece but still one of my favorites. This comes from my world of #Zastos. A patron asked me if I had any disabled characters and since I didn't at the time I decided to fix that. What came out was this fabulous lady and I love her!

Years ago for #Ha-Nahn I painted this piece called Borderland Scout. But the border scouts of Ha-Nahn are so markedly different from any border guards in our world. They're not there to keep people from moving across nations but rather aid travelers in need, alert about dangers/monsters etc.

Mwindaji, Remnant Leader Image of Mwindaji, a named Remnant (a type of living weapon in Ha-Nahn that is formed when a weapon absorbs so much hatred and malice from its owner that it tries to keep on fighting even after that person dies) stalking forward through an eerie yellow orange night with a full moon. She leads a small troop of others behind her as though prepared to destroy an unsuspecting village. Her body is full of indications of damage from previous battles and yet she still exists. I'm reminded of two incidents immediately. one that happened to my mom and aunt, another that happened to me.

In the first case a woman came banging on my family's door (well before I was born). Torn clothes, disheveled and scared out of her mind. She'd narrowly escaped a kidnapping apparently.

A bit of poetry to teach children about the dangers of remnants like Mwindaji.
This bit of dark poetry came up while I was working on a write up tonight. “Step by step they come. Through the trees and over the hills, like a wicked scythe they come. To cut the villages down. Mile by mile they come. Past the ruins and up to the walls, like a ruinous tide they come. To cut the villages down. Led by Mwindaji they come. Screaming bronze swords in living form. No lights and no sound, don’t want to be found. I went back and forth about whether to post this or not but I don't know, maybe it helps someone else. One of my friends suggested some of these feelings of inadequacy come from fixating too much on what makes it socials.

But this question of "should I be doing more" keeps nagging me.
In the midst of all of this awful I think sometimes about whether I should be doing more. As an artist I think we all have these feelings at one level or another. I go through the list of things I do: I work in a library, I help unhoused people literally everyday, I help people get their material needs met. I connect people with social workers on site to help them navigate these fucked up systems. I get people forms and documents they need for a variety of things. I teach people about history and politics through the displays I make. I'm teaching people to question authority through the DnD games I run at work. I regularly educate people on line nad in person in my space about shit going on. I've taught people about how to parse information and sources. I routinely put together informational dossiers on politicians and issues every election so people in my circle and theirs can be informed voters and I haven't been silent about the various atrocities happening at any moment. So with all of that I wonder sometimes why it STILL doesn't feel like enough and if anything ever would be.

Man, today has been real productive. I got up, read the news, cleaned my bathroom, did dishes, went grocery shopping and am currently folding and putting away laundry... and I still feel like I haven't done enough with my day (I do still have some art to finish).

That feeling is bullshit! lol.

Completely lost on the 77M Americans who voted for this nightmare is that Habeas Corpus is a critical underpinning of our legal system.

We don't exist as a free society without the right to challenge unlawful imprisonment. It's crazy that 41% of Americans approve of this unlawful presidency.

Beyond your 6th Amendment right to an attorney, this seems like a violation of Article 1 protected Habeas Corpus rights. How can you file a Habeas petition if you’re held incommunicado?

Lawyers can't reach clients in ICE detention. I've heard it anecdotally, but scale of issue is horrifying.
