My flat in London was absolutely haunted. Not backing down on that.

The second Mossa and Pleiti story. This Holmesian duo are this time investigating a missing persons case that quickly develops into much more than they were expecting.

Charming and engaging, this builds confidently on the world and relationship established in the first book. #books #booksky

Came up with a plot device of sliding St. Paul’s into the Thames on giant rollers). And the writing, of course, is sublime. More books I have found through BlueSky and hooray to that.

Adult romances. Not entirely surprisingly, they have a hint of gothic and some delightful idiosyncrasies - while the ones I have read (so far, The Five Minute Marriage and Smile of the Stranger) have what for me is the requisite HEA, they are also a bit quirky (as one would expect from an author who

I go back to this one time when I was in San Francisco and I ate a really good almond croissant fresh out of the oven of the bakery my French friend said was good (they don’t do that, or it’s rare) while looking at the bay on a crisp beautiful morning. Such a small thing, and so perfect.

Deepest darkness George has forgotten that, and a lot of adults have had moments akin to that.

I know Potter doesn’t “lose,” but the censors appear to have been pretty superficial: he has no friends, only flunkies. He has already lost.

That feels right. As a kid you don’t understand the threads running between disappointment and joy/hope and how in our dark times disappointment is out of balance with hope. Adults can see resilience too - you realize ok, that didn’t work out but maybe this next thing will - and at the moment of

On my walk to the bus I would sometimes pass by the house of an acquaintance who liked giving me rides to work (he worked near me). I dreaded seeing him get into his car because I knew the offer was coming.

He was not doing me a favor. He was ruining my head space time. Thank god he has retired.

We watched it again with the kids some years ago and I had remembered it as dark but was still surprised by the deep anger throughout.

And having a beer that you nurse is also socially acceptable, while cold coffee is bad and then everyone is tapping on laptops, which they don’t do in pubs usually.

I met one of my best friends in the world hanging out at a pub equivalent (garden of a hostel) - you just hang out and it’s not really noisy and you’re fine with just settling in and being leisurely. Our utter weirdness about alcohol doesn’t help.
