Welcome new followers! I am Abbaetha. I mostly follow historians, academics, authors and bookish types, crafters, and cooks. My feed is mostly breads, cakes, books, and crafts, which continues the theme. I like a quiet peaceful corner and that’s the goal of this account. No cat, but ferrets.
A ferret sacked out falling out of a green bed. The floor is a galaxy pattern and there are other patterned beds around her.

A most excellent book. My sourdough starter is not carnivorous though. I hope.

Will consider. Would not show my face though. 🙂

Yeah, this always entertains me too.

Nope, you were not a knight. You were a peasant. If you were very lucky your soil was good quality.

I’m prosperous! I can afford dyed cloth! But I’m not rich so none of your fancy blues or anything.

I just gave myself a concussion smacking myself in the forehead and screaming D’oh!

🤣

If I liked drip I would absolutely do that but I’m completely stuck on my little moka, which does not allow for automation. 🙁

Thank you! It was a lot of fun. If I were to do another I would do front-lacing, but without a muslin I wanted flexibility so I did side lacing on both sides.

I was going to do that cornered apron but I was using scrap muslin and it was getting messy around the edges so gathers instead.

Also, if you want to be sexy, that’s great! I’m a (non-sexy) baker. If it wouldn’t be annoying to clean I would dust myself with flour.

Oh part of the inspiration - Breughel’s wedding dance.
Detail from Breughel’s wedding dance - a woman in a headcloth and an apron, a beige coat and a red skirt dances on a green.

😊

Definitely some synergy there, although I’m eating today’s bread and it’s not coming as a prop.

They let you leave mid-way and come back and I didn’t get it initially but we had to take a lunch break and no way you can manage what you need to see in only a half-day - and I’m not even in the trade.
abbaetha.bsky.social
Exactly! I’m upping my game enough to be a prosperous farmer/tradesperson but I’m not even aspiring to merchant. Maybe the next costume will be merchant.

Tom and I are built from the same cloth. This costume is emphatically not sexy, unless you are attracted to people swathed in very plain but voluminous garb. And I love it. When the ren faire is transported to an island they will need me and Tom. Also Wat is a great choice. I am Bess, like 50%

And I will feed you, friend pirate, for good coin. Like a good matron, my hair will be up and covered (hi Fippy!). Because I don’t have a body and didn’t have time for a muslin the fit is a little weird but I learned a lot and will be ready to tackle something bigger soon.

The choice of a workaday kirtle reflects a recurring peeve of mine about the economy of the ren faire. Everyone’s a pirate, a bar wrench, a demon/elf, or a noble. Nobody is a farmer or a tradesperson. They would all starve to death. Thus, I will be a baker/brewer’s wife. I am prosperous but not rich

I did it. I made a renfaire costume.

I used @thetudortailor.bsky.social ‘s typical Tudor, remnant upholstery fabric, and a lot of muslin. I also used the serger and shortcuts.
A burgundy kirtle with a cream apron and a cream chemise and a cream headwrap are on a lawn with leaves on it.

A collage announcing a knitting collaboration inspired by a medieval dragon. In the top left, a blue and gold dragon curls beside Gothic script from a 15th-century manuscript (Harley MS 1662). To the right, two skeins of yarn — one cream, one vivid sapphire blue — are shown with fern and pearl accents. Below, a pair of colorwork mittens display the dragon motif in blue and cream against a rustic wooden background. Center text reads “NEW COLLAB ALERT!” with a small green dragon icon. Additional images show close-ups of the yarn and the finished mittens, whose intricate patterns mirror the medieval illumination.
