She prefers whatever gets the job done but tends to go for the shortest path, i.e. kill everyone between her and her objective.

(Excerpt from FHSD Book 3:Rise Up, Strike Harder)

I see, I see. How do you plan to get a hold of an interstellar comm unit?” Vinilencia leaned forward, lacing her fingers together on the desk.

“We’ve got a top ‘a’ the line FIC scout ship. It’s got one.”

Vinilencia’s expression slackened, “Oh.”

“You were excited to reveal you had one, weren’t you?” Maria smiled.

She sighed, “...yeah.”

The four of them entered a small room full of computer equipment. Racks lined the walls, and wires snaked beneath a hard foam grating on the floor. Across from the door was a bank of monitors with various keyboards, buttons, and dials. The monitors all showed various strings of green text.

Vinilencia stepped ahead of the group, smiling widely, “Welcome to the RX-25 Interstellar Comms System!”

“I’m afraid that’s not your decision, Ms. Frinizriak. You see, I own this building. I own this sector. In a way, it could be claimed I own the whole Dawn Damned moon. The Biringar Syndicate has had a hand in most every business, black market deal, petty crime, and individual purchase on this moon since 4992. Forty years I’ve run this place, and I’m not stopping now. Not just because some upstart rebellion wants to muscle in on my territory. You come to my moon, want to set up shop, you play by my rules, got it?”

“What exactly do you mean by ‘staying here’?” Tantrii asked.

“Oh you’ll be very happy with your accommodations, I assure you. I won’t be putting you in some dark cell or anything. You’ll just be under guard is all.” Vinilencia smiled.

Maria sighed, “I’ll do it. Leave Niarith here with them, and I'll do it.”

“That’s not the deal. I’m setting the terms here, not you. You and Ms. Velnazrenak will complete your task, and your friends will be returned to you safe and sound. After which I will dedicate my extensive resources to your cause. Refuse, and well… given my station, I have contacts in the FIC. It would be trivial to call them up and let them know I have several of their highest priority targets. I’d probably even be rewarded with further autonomy under their rule. But none of us want it to come to that, do we?”

“I…” Niarith steeled herself, “Fuck… We’ll do it. We’ll fucking do it, okay?”

Maria nodded, “Just tell us where we need to go and-”

Vinilencia shook her head, “No no no, you’re not going alone, sillies. The two lovely ladies of mine in the room with us will be accompanying you. To ensure you do the job as ordered, you see.”

Niarith sighed, “Fine.”

“One more thing. I’m sure you’ve noticed we all have these,” She gestured to her cat ears, “They allow for near instant telepathic communication between any and all of us. Communication at the speed of thought. Don’t try anything, because we’ll know the instant you do. And then? You probably ge…

(Excerpt from FHSD Book 1: Fly High, Sink Deeper)

Lucia shivered in the cold air of the dungeon, sitting on the floor, trying to work out if there was any sort of pattern to who was taken and when. She heard the click of heels on stone. Footsteps, approaching her cell. She stood, ready to defend herself. Instead of a thrall, like she expected, she was met with the visage of the scantily clad Empress of her world, Mirideth Asazlaiyn herself.
“Hello there, darling Plaything.” The Empress said, her voice low and sensual.
Lucia crossed her arms defiantly, “What do you want, witch?”
This was exactly what she needed. The witch had brought herself straight to her, all she needed to do now was wait for her chance.
Mirideth leaned forward, causally resting her forearms on the bars on the woman’s cell. It was a position that accentuated her cleavage, which the woman deeply wished she didn't find so distracting.
Mirideth’s glistening black lips curled into a smile, “To talk.”
“We have nothing to discuss. You are an evil witch, borne of the Void. You are The Corruptor. I have not a word to say to you.”
“Oh I disagree, Plaything.”
The door to the cell opened, Lucia tensed, this was it…
“And why is that then?”
"Because I can see your potential, my dear. You can be so much more than a mere assassin. Sneaking about in the shadows, failing to carry out your duty." Mirideth stepped into the cell, slowly.
Lucia scoffed, "I only failed because-"
"I was better than you? Saw through your pathetic ruse? Am more powerful than you ever imagined? Which is it, plaything? I'm curious." She smirked.
Suddenly, Lucia found her thoughts becoming cloudy, less fully formed. She looked up at Mirideth, and saw her eyes glowing teal. This meant something, she knew that much, but what it was, was hard to pin down. Everything was becoming confused.
Mirideth spoke, and her voice was... different somehow, prettier, distorted, easy to listen to. "Tell me, girl. Which, is it?"
The words spilled from her mouth with little effort, little thought

Fuck I wish I found it less mind bendingly difficult to actually engage with the writing community here beyond just posting my own stuff.
Anxiety is a bitch.
It's kinda funny that I've found it immensely easier to interact with people in kink communities than I do here.

(Excerpt from FHSD Book 2: Sink Deep, Rise Higher)

Maria stood there for a moment, an uncertain expression on her face, “I couldn’t say in the dining hall. It’s not safe.” She said, in a low voice, “Frankly, I’m not certain I can tell Niarith. Not with the programming still in her head. Not until I know for sure what’s going on.”

Lolanene stared up at Maria, processing, “Right. So what is goin’ on then?”

“The intel officer Retild called out during the briefing, remember her?” Maria asked, leaning back against the wall.

Lolanene made her way all the way around the corner, leaning against the wall as well, next to Maria, “Yeah, what ‘bout her?”

To Maria’s surprise, Mirideth’s voice came out instead of her own, “Is it really so hard to guess? She’s got mind control abilities. And has been blocking my access to external sensors whenever she’s nearby.”

“She may have mind control abilities.” Maria said, “Mirideth is clearly malfunctioning around her and I have been acting strangely for reasons even I don’t understand since meeting her, but I'm not convinced. Not just yet.”

“Why’d she be doin’ it? Why mess with yer relationship of all things? She just want ya fer herself er somethin’?”

“I don’t think so,” Maria replied, “I think there’s more to it than that. Thinking back on our conversation, I think maybe she wanted to undermine my trust in anyone but her. Niarith was just the start.”
