Not my area at all, but SOFA XVII.10.b grants MPs off-base policing authority to maintain soldier discipline 'subject to arrangements with the authorities of Japan and in liaison'. Afaict there isn't a published agreement for these specific patrols

first two seasons honestly close to perfect for their time. its flaws are sycophancy towards the president, and understating political violence. it has neonazis who are bad bc violence, and religious right bad on 1st amendment, and electeds bad bc corruption, but no sense these things are connected

I think americans who came of age in the 20th century had an overhang where they thought they were still living in david souter's america. (or earl warren's, MLK's, even eisenhower), which however imperfect was trying + learning. then each of us found out about roger stone + had a rude awakening
