You should care about Jamaica and Sudan even if you don't know anyone there and the news isn't covering it. The anti-Blackness embedded in folks' lack of empathy is gross.

This is the kind of crucial work my colleagues do. It’s great science, enacted through creativity, hard work, dedication, and complicated logistics. What the article doesn’t say is that almost everyone in this story is currently furloughed. #NOAA #alaska #FisheriesScience

We are proud to serve the American people. Since we’re furloughed and can’t do our complicated, challenging, interesting jobs protecting the marine environment, we will protect it in a very basic way- by picking up trash on the beach.
Here in Seattle, furloughed NOAA employees were out in the pouring rain cleaning up beaches yesterday, part of a national week of service organized by federal workers who can't do their jobs due to the shutdown.

Story by @heyjohnryan.bsky.social at KUOW, our federally defunded public radio station.

This is such good news, so glad to see dedicated scientists reinstated!
NEW: NOAA and other climate, energy agencies are reinstating fired probationary employees at least temporarily while court cases play out. Details: www.axios.com/2025/03/17/c...

Can't really understate how insidious and deliberate it is that the Trump administration has gone after transgender people and Palestine supporters in the first six weeks.

It's Fascism 101 to target the most vulnerable groups with the least defenders first.

Today I #StandUpForScience2025 by creating a quilt I can take to non-STEM audiences to help them understand what is going on & why science matters to everyone. Quilt is titled Data Interrupted and has fabric squares blocking access to data. #QuiltSky 🧪

A friend made this, he’s been at #NOAA for decades. I love it and I think it speaks to what we are going through as a country and as an agency.

Bottom line: The intentional loss of exceptional scientists and other terrific public servants at NOAA leaves our country less safe and more vulnerable.

Another word for "regulation" is...

"consumer protection"
"environmental protection"

"Regulation" means your milk is safe. "Regulation" means toys that harm your babies are removed from the shelves. "Regulation" means chemical companies can't dump waste in your river.
my kingdom for an elected official who will stand up and defend the fact that the government employs people to test wastewater and send old people money and keep an eye on the bears in the park and make sue the people that scammed you

Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
You can ignore climate change,
But it won’t ignore you.

Happy Valentine’s Day! Stop trying to suppress science, it doesn’t work that way.

NOAA manages large ocean fisheries in US waters. Scientists there conduct surveys, sample fish, and run complex models to estimate the levels of sustainable catches. NOAA is recognized as a world leader in creating jobs, producing food, and avoiding overfishing. Kudos to NOAA fisheries!!!!
