I like math, I make drugs.
To truly appreciate CRAN, one has to use CTAN, CPAN, or something similar. TeX is amazing, but if you install the wrong package off of CTAN it can break all kinds of stuff. And figuring out what is wrong is so painful. You go through this a couple times and you really appreciate CRAN.

Not everyone was like that. There were plenty of folks who were not. Sadly, like Faine said, not the majority. I don't live there any more but I have friends and family who still do.

This is not a bad thing or sneaky or anything that Bluesky has ever attempted to conceal - the point here isn’t that Bluesky is at fault, it’s that you shouldn’t say dumb shit on the public Internet.

Hell in the late 90s in Arkansas I would still see calendars with Robert E Lee day instead of MLK. There were young people (in their 20s) that called it the war of norther aggression.

I refinanced in 2021, so right now I'm quite fond of it. All joking aside. I do appreciate a fixed bill every month.

So if you live in a house that has increased in value several hundred thousand dollars, you're not really paying property taxes on most of that increase. You could move, sure but then if you get something similar you're monthly tax bill would be much higher.

I think lock in is also a contributing factor to housing costs in California. Along with in interest rates, propery taxes are artificially lower because poposition 13 sets the maximum increase in taxes at 2% a year.

You just know that Lizza is responding like: I told these folks that Olivia was having an affair with Mark Stanford and all they can do is trash my bamboo metaphor.

I think the implication is that someone in say Brooklyn who would write off folks in the South would assume the things they frequent are not available in red states.

1991 was a good year. I’d probably choose Blue Lines

Whenever people talk about a perfect album Hunky Dory is always the first one I think of. I can drink a glass of wine and listen to it straight through. I was -4 when it came out.

They say this stuff about curing diseases and it goes unchallenged. They never bring in anyone who does drug discovery to point out just how magical all this thinking is.

It’s really tough for Republicans when they discover that they also have to live in the same world they force us to live in

I guess to be fair once you get into the senior-level classes many of those tests generally were open book, started at 8AM and finished when you were done. They were exhausting, but much better at testing what you knew and understood under real-world conditions. I did much better on those.

I agree. Sadly.

I generally don't test very well. In spite of that, I just kept pushing and eventually got a PhD. It turns out that my actual job is nothing like the tests I took in engineering as an undergraduate. Most projects take longer than 60 minutes to complete.

Ok. I didn't know what it was called. I'm OK with more verbose code if it means I can come back and read it in the future.
