It is exciting! The first time you feel that rush... being "a part of something big"... it's exhilarating and I totally understand why people get hooked.

But cocaine is exhilarating too...

If you're not *sure*, and I mean ready to defend yourself in court if it comes to that, you don't hit "post". It doesn't leave the groupchat. You keep working or you sit on it till more info becomes available.

All the most credible people you follow already do this, you just don't see it.

If you're not trying actively to disprove your hypothesis, it's not an investigation.

That means considering every possibility, even if unlikely, because when you're combing through millions of people, "unlikely" doesn't mean much.

"I think it might be true" is not enough to ruin someone's life.

It's also just a wild thing to prioritize with everything going on in the world right now. The amount of energy being devoted to this issue atm feels more than a bit ironic.

My brain just wants to spell it "mysoginy". I *know* better, and catch it pretty much every time (I hope?) but go through this in my head every damn time.

Would you actually want the ability to force your loved ones to stay with you, even if they wanted nothing more than to escape?

How would you ever know that anyone actually wanted to be around you? Would you really want to live with that kind of gnawing uncertainty?

"I'll defend a Holocaust denier but don't you think the NYT is being a little TOO critical of Assad's forces opening fire on that protest full of children..."

That is not speaking up for the oppressed.
