bc i like it when things are exact: Van Gogh created his exquisite paintings IN AN INPATIENT CLINIC. he was GETTING TREATMENT for his depression. he said in his diaries he created his best paintings when he was the happiest. kill the starving suffering artist stereotype and burn it.
Van Gogh's extreme depression and beautiful works of art are an outlier, he's amazing because he did all of that DESPITE his brain chemistry making his life hell, not BECAUSE of it
The tortured/starving artist trope is both wrong & damaging because it makes it sound that suffering is good actually
