Bailey admits that the traditional "pipeline" of people who normally get promoted upward would be impacted as entry level jobs are impacted.

And why hire a new FTE when that workload could distributed among existing staff who are told to use AI to reduce their workloads.

The AI scientists are warning next generation models will be even more capable of taking over knowledge work tasks.

Entirely possible that UK unemployment hits 7-8% in five years time if AI is used to automate most back office work. It's not that people will be made redundant, it's the new vacancies that would normally be created, won't be.

Ministers underestimate pace of impact until it's too late.

Consulting firms are using AI to displace jobs for their clients and themselves. It's happening already.

LibDems would support it, of course, but I think the Tories would not undo it now that there are Brexiteers who have come out to say it was an economic mistake. I think they'd leave it in place where the Tories to regain power in 2030s.

I believe Labour will do a form of customs union in next term. If they mention it now, Reform and Brexiteers will be all over it as rejoining EU, and it will generate more support for the Reform Tory coalition.
