Hard to say, I can see it mattering up to 2029 (how well can Farage hold the line against Tommy Robinson types, especially if their lead starts to drop) but if they win then suddenly all that matters is that the other Reform MPs will be MPs like any other and have the powers that come with it

It falls apart in its last episode (spoilers I guess) but this was thoroughly enjoyable trash

What's the record for the highest proportion of cast members in a TV show not doing their real accents?

Because Nine Bodies in a Mexican Morgue has, shall we say, a selection
adamdrummond.bsky.social
The whole thing is delightfully batshit but the number of actors that seem to be trying out their American accents for the first time is high

I feel like "astronaut" is doing more of the heavy lift in this person's work/life balance than "millennial"

This is always the paradox of my party conference trips (and maybe it just reflects the events I go to) but at both Lab and Con I see MPs who care about issues talking in detail about it and engaging in good faith. But then the whole governance of a country has to be squashed into a Laura K segment

It was a silly large room but a really interesting event nonetheless

As someone who has spent their career working with public opinion I can confirm that the British public are, in fact, completely unreasonable

On the morning of Keir Starmer's conference speech here's a new post on an odd psychopathology in British politics - our main parties don't like the people who vote for them - the dreaded Professional Managerial Class. And so they are acting out like a divorced dad seeking cooler voters. 1/n

Why British Parties Can't Make Peace with Their Actual Voters

A repeated feedback we get on the podcast is ‘wow, you guys have actually read the plans/document/whatever’ and we’re like, sure, a bit, between having day jobs and freelance careers, but honestly it’s more of a testament to the fact that most political journalists seem to read nothing ever.

I don’t want to be mean but… Can lobby journalists figure anything out without a briefing from Downing Street?

You would maybe have to dig millimetres into the plans to figure this out.

I really want to watch a "Chaos on the bridge" style documentary about how much of a car crash the post-TLJ production was, the studio freakout, cancelling DotF, whether they had a script when they started filming etc

According to my exclusive new MRP poll, the number of general elections in the next three years is zero
adamdrummond.bsky.social
Also stupidly self defeating, you're basically saying "well we're doing this good thing because people are telling pollsters they'll vote Reform" then what do you think will happen?
adamdrummond.bsky.social
I realise it's pointless to ever use facts in these situations but Farage didn't get above 15% last year and polls had said he would. And the same companies are now saying he's on 30%, so what does he think it is?

Yea speaking as person who does polling: the Lib Dems should absolutely ignore this. Hard to think of a question with more social desirability bias than "should the leader spend more or less time bungee jumping"
dorianlynskey.bsky.social
The annoying thing here is that the Lib Dems talk policy quite a lot and get ignored by the media, which is what Davey's stunts were a response to in the first place. I don't think he's addicted to stunts. I'm sure he'd love it if his policies got covered

Adding James to the "people who have also read Neil Postman recently" list.

Magnificent and deeply troubling piece.

In the eighteenth century the rise of literacy precipitated the greatest transfer of knowledge into the hands of ordinary men and women in history and helped to destroy the old feudal order in Europe.

As literacy recedes a neo-feudal future looms.
