From a crewmember on yesterday's Teal 74 mission into now-Category 5 Hurricane #Melissa. As clear of an eye as you will see in the Atlantic basin.

If it feels like it rains or snows every weekend, you might be right if you live in upstate NY.

You have to go all the way back to November 16th-17th, 2024 to find a weekend that was completely dry in Albany, Syracuse, and Saranac Lake. That's over 6 months ago!

Parts of the Northeast appear to be next in line for an exceptionally wet pattern, as a cutoff low will meander for at least several days, if not a week or more.

Over 50-60% of EPS ensemble members show over 4” of rain through mid-May:

Friday weather heads up...lots of wind, gusts from 40-50 mph morning into the afternoon and a potential for some scattered squalls...best potential between 4 and 9am, brief bursts of snow and quick coatings with reduced visibility. Some additional snow showers in the afternoon from lake effect.

Snowstorm on track for Saturday night into Sunday morning...I don't expect mixing with this one and it will zip right along. Widespread plowable snow likely, early spit ball thinking that a lot of could come in somewhere between 5 and 9". Down to just a few snow showers Sunday afternoon.

The snow part of tomorrow's storm comes through quickly, 2-4 hour burst in the morning, then some sleet and a glaze due to freezing drizzle in the afternoon. Expect roads to snow over fast after the onset with slick travel, icy conditions linger through the day as temps. will struggle to rise.

The storm coming in Saturday night into Sunday looks like will be a bigger snow maker than tomorrow's system. Moderate to heavy accumulations increasingly likely. Plenty of time to watch the evolution.

I deactivated my Twitter account the other day after 16 years. It’s somewhat sad to leave but I just can’t in good conscience have any association with it anymore.

The forecast spread for this storm roughly 18 hours out is immense! The low end to high end forecasts for Albany are 0” to 18”. Could be literally nothing, or the biggest storm in several years. Yeesh.
