On Friday, we joined the groundbreaking for the "Maia Correia Bikeway," the long-awaited protected cycletrack on Lakeshore Ave around Lake Merritt.

It was an emotional event, as we grieved alongside Maia's family. Two years ago, the 4-year-old was killed while riding a bicycle here with her father.

Just to state the obvious, this has nothing to do with actual crime and everything to do with the fact that DC has a large Black population. A central credo of Trumpism going at least as far back as the Central Park Five case, is the essential criminality of Black people.

It is fucking insane that we had a decade of people complaining about the dangers of cancel culture, and now literally hundreds of thousands of people are being purged from government jobs for ideological reasons, but that is not cancel culture.
