I really hope that each new generation of punk or metal bands in Salisbury includes one called Holy Dipstick.
there's a priest who's job, twice a day, is to lift a floor stone in the nave and check the water level with a Holy Dipstick and communicate if the sluice needs adjusting

again, i am not exaggerating

A particular version of this I've noticed at History conferences (may be true elsewhere too) is the restatement of the story/theory as told 30 years ago, which has already been nuanced or debunked in the talk itself. I think that is a mix of the two categories at the top here.
Reminds me of this…

New blog post on @kentcricket.co.uk's time 150 years ago based at Catford Bridge, which sadly did not result in a third major cricket ground in London

When Catford was the home of Kent cricket
Introduction If you believe in such things, there is a parallel universe somewhere where Catford is home to a third major cricket ground in London. Home to Kent County Cricket Club since the 1870s,…

Enjoyed my inadvertent pre-listen to the Cords album today when bandcamp briefly let me listen to the whole thing. Really enjoyed it and now looking forward to listening legitimately in September!
We're *way* excited to announce the eagerly-awaited debut album from Scottish duo The Cords, coming Sept 26th on SLR and Skep Wax. Timeless, vital indiepop bursting with boundless energy, youthful confidence, and most importantly terrific tunes. 1st single "Fabulist" out now!

One other 7/7 thread today. Because I think how the bus network got running again is a real testament to some serious heroes that day:

The bus drivers and staff who got that network running again and got London home that night.

And TfL/the Mayor disobeyed the Security Services to make it happen /1

What perfect albums came out when you were 16?
(Plus CODY by Mogwai shortly after my 17th birthday)

Quite. Our local "underground" book exchange was in the street level entrance of Lewisham station, outside the barriers, which was apparently reclassified as being underground because it's also by the entrance to the DLR.
