Another basic income pilot focused on homelessness has released preliminary results after only 6 months because halfway through the experiment, it is already showing incredible effectiveness.

$750/mo for 6 months led to homelessness dropping to 12% versus 23% in the control group on a wait list.
$750 a month, no questions asked, improved the lives of homeless people
A study by USC and a San Francisco-based nonprofit has found that a $750 monthly stipend improves the lives of homeless people.

Y'all been discarding rRNAs from your sequencing results. But I thought I'd address my questions as unbiased as I can be. It's all a hypothesis at the moment but rRNAs can do wild things 😳

Recovering from vitamin B12 deficiency must be one of the hardest experiences of my life.

I really thought that by doing a PhD in Cambridge I would meet other people interested in science as whole, curious, creative, eager to brainstorm and test ideas. I've never been so wrong in my life and I've been battling with ideas of quitting for over a year. Sometimes I wish I never came here.

When talking to new people I always like to ask the random question "What kind of music do you like?". As simple as this question is it also reveals a lot about the person - do they have an opinion of their own? Sadly most will reply with "anything, mostly pop". I accept any response but this..

Every time I see 50+ beehives in a row my brain screams "ecological collapse" and I can't help it anymore 😭

Last night I went to some sort of rap open mic here in Cambridge and I am happy to have found the rap crowd I missed so much. It's also so interesting to just listen to the stories random people rap about.

Kraken2 is my go-to tool for genus level classification. Species level becomes tricky tbh

Is it just me or has it become increasingly difficult to find meaningful rap? Or is it that I grew up listening to rap touching on sociopolitical issues and personal struggles? You can still find some gems but they've become sooo rare.

We're going to end up renaming the Kessler Effect the Musk Effect. Every time I read something like this I am filled with the dread that this reckless fucking idiot is going to kill space exploration as we know it because his junk machines are going to go haywire and trigger a cascade
Fun reminder time!

Starlink is an incredibly dangerous dipshit op they’re using to spy, but the satellites are crowding space in a way that should NEVER have been allowed.

Science and animal nerds: check out this fun game! Every day, a new mystery animal is posted. You have 20 guesses to narrow down which species it is. (Phylogenetic trees are HARD, y'all.)
