(No, I don't expect that everyone everywhere is actively checking every single person they follow all the time, but it's still "you've a finite amount of time, you have to tune the temporal random slice of your feed to something you'll actually enjoy, and you for sure aren't getting that at 50k.")

But like, to really emphasize the point, we know there are roughly 525600 minutes in a year. Assume 1/3 asleep, leaves 350400 minutes awake.

If you spent all that time just going through your follows at 50k, you'd have an average of 7 minutes and 0.48 seconds per user over the entirety of the year.

Is this low self-confidence and pessimism? Maybe!

Do I believe the 50k+ actually engaged with anything I did, adjusting for the self-critical bias? Nah, probably filtered on a keyword, or ran an API call on post likes, or got a random live sample from firehose which I was in, or...

And, like, maybe someone will surprise me with a reasonable explanation as to how one can have a good experience following that many users. But I see someone over 50k randomly follow me when I haven't been posting as frequently, nor about what I usually do, and I wonder what they scraped to find me.

(I used to use the 10 or 20k list, I forgot which, but someone using Listifications or Clearsky decided to do a list slap fight. Not worth.)

So I (correctly) thought something was off, couldn't put my finger on it... until I eventually noticed I had them on backwards, and despite putting the headphones down the correct way 99+% of the time, I've still been checking them due to the anxiety they *might* be the wrong way around again lol
