My husband's stepfather is old and impossible, so we always just got him a gift certificate to Earl's, which is a restaurant chain in Canada, because he likes their ribs and that's that.

I got you. I don't know your personal style, but you really can't go wrong with merino wool knitwear or socks. Uniqlo has some nice options for knitwear, and Smartwool and Icebreaker are my go-to for merino wool socks.
