Hi, great question. So as a part of my research, I meet with a youth advisory group.

Whilst chronic pain specifically hasn't been discussed, we have talked about disability and it has been set as one of the priorities. So this is an area that I'm going to look into, hope that answers your question

I hope that with my PhD, I can contribute to the growing literature around social determinants and suicide prevention and ultimately produce evidence-based recommendations for policy and research.

Suicide prevention research has largely focused on how we tackle these individual risks, though recently, greater attention has been given to social determinants.
ahgchen.bsky.social
What this means is that I'll be focusing on the broader social, political, economic and environmental factors as well as how they interact with individual risks.

My research involves Investigating the Social determInants of youTh suicidE (InSITE) 🔗 insite.ahgchen.uk

I'm examining broader upstream factors that influence suicidal thoughts, behaviours and self-harm among young people in England.

Today is #WorldSuicidePreventionDay, this year it's about transforming how we perceive this complex issue. I thought I'd talk about my PhD at @imh-uob.bsky.social and how I'm changing the narrative in terms of self-harm and suicide prevention research

Suicide prevention requires systemic change. Governments worldwide must:

- Decriminalise suicide
- Implement national suicide prevention strategies
- Fund accessible mental health care

Policy saves lives. Let’s demand action.

Our Annual Report 2025 provides findings related to people who died by suicide between 2012-2022 across the UK & Jersey. We also present findings on the number of people under #MentalHealth care who have been convicted of homicide, & those in the general population in the UK.
