in a lot of larger cities/regions, there are active communities around meshtastic specifically or mesh radios more generally

typically organized via discord, there are always helpful folks around to troubleshoot issues and welcome new people into the community

meshtastic is popular and getting started is pretty easy, you can get devices for not much money that connect to a phone via bluetooth and are configured via an app

i think this video is an accessible intro from the perspective an interested tinkerer who isn't necessarily a huge radio nerd

completely unrelated to benn's post, these devices are pretty well reviewed and reliable, a little expensive to be disposable but a fun platform for learning!

I will need to think about it some more... adding an actual transceiver will require some infrastructure but scanners can tap into an existing RF distribution amp

but with more EBRCS agencies going encrypted, I don't really need more scanner capacity

Vague statements but both IL and OR state officials suggest NORTHCOM isn't talking to states, at all, about other states' troops being inserted. In OR at least the CA troops are housed at an ORNG base so there must have been *some* coordination? 1/
