Journey to the tomb of a bug
It is morning, about 10 of the clock. You have disembarked at the train station an hour outside the city. A bleak, confined maze of weather-stained concrete stairs and walls greets you. The sky is not seen. Here in the artificially textured wall, nestled between the rough striations, a small crack and a shadow within. Approaching from the other side of the crevice, the light of the sun reaches in, and the shadow of your colossal form plays over the vertical landscape of Wall World. Inside the hole, a lump of a figure not yet brought into focus. Stopped athe doorstep of the cave, now, we find: it is the husk of a pillbug. A rolly-pollie, a sow bug, a wood louse; neither a louse nor a bug in truth, but a crustacean whose kin have come from sea to land. A breather of humid air, now dry as the dust of the grave. The sun glints off its hard armor, feebly curled by incomplete defiance of the harder world it knew for some years unknown. We dare not enter the cave, lest we disturb this creature's well-earned silence.
