Its becoming evident that the only way to quell inflation, driven largely by rapacious businesses, is to implement a progressive revenue tax. Stop taxing profits. Tax revenue instead. E.g. Start off at 5% for <$1m revenue. Progress to 25% for >$1bn.

I swear to gosh, that if @nzlabour.bsky.social @nzlabourparty.bsky.social @chrishipkins.bsky.social vote for the SAME FTA with India that they previously rejected, they have lost my vote permanently.

Paying India $25BILLION USD for this so called FTA is not in NZ’s best interests.

Y’know, I’m surprised the punitive govt hasn’t made it a condition to ensure electoral enrolment details are up to date before receiving a benefit.

Possibly /s but unsure considering inertia would stop enrolment, and therefore fewer people on benefits.

Earthquake prediction is a mugs game
Magnitude 5.0+ earthquake in NZ (around the red line), especially when the line is around Cook Strait or not far from it, is highly likely during Jan 16-28.

@keithng.bsky.social can MMH get any more inept? Thought you might be interested in how much more farcical it’s becoming.

Email - oops, your data was impacted

Website portal - you were not impacted.

What sort of monkeys are running MMH??

Can Canada and Australia just hurry up declare that the USA is now a rogue state that they will no longer see as a a a nation led by a fit person?

If Canada and Australia express their disgust, the minnows that are UK and NZ may follow.

UK - maybe not due to the red tory Starmer.

NZ - lol. Whatev

Reddit is turning on NZ. Comments from overseas:

“How did NZ lose Jacinda?”
“Is NZ a third world country now?”
“Why is everyone leaving NZ”
“Is there any reason to visit NZ when it has so much crime?”
“Are kiwis embarrassed to have an idiot like Chrismas Luxon for PM?”

Boxing Day sales go for at least two weeks and then straight into New Year sales before going into biggest ever Waitangi Day sales.

Shopping in nz is a scam these days. Nothing is a real price or discount anymore.

If @labournz.bsky.social vote for the terribly one sided, lop-sided, India favoured FTA, they’re done.

Simon Mutonhori, formerly of Wairoa District Council recently ordered by the NZ Employment Court to pay $33,000 in costs to WDC.

However, Mutonhori somehow found a new job at Mt Isa Council in Queensland. Wherein he was shortly terminated. He is currently taking proceedings against Mt Isa Council

One automatic, and easy, tax relief that @labournz.bsky.social could offer low income earners is to deduct student loan repayments from GROSS wages, not Net.

Deducting from gross wages automatically means the total gross value liable to PAYE would be lower. Instant tax relief.

Labour must agree to 12% KS/2032, but in one fell swoop, trump National by confirming that if an employee is on a contributions holiday, the employer must still pay the employer contribution

And mandate that the employer KS contribution is in addition to salary/hourly wage

Q as a name is reserved only for a specific Star Trek character.

Not for introducing a new leader’s singular attempt at a party’s opportunity to obtain votes for an opportunity to get into Parliament for an opportunity to implement a land value tax as the sole opportunity to rebalance NZs taxation
That’s what I thought at first too, which would also be funny, but this graphic they posted announcing their new leader indicates it is just plural to singular. Have they submitted an official name change with the electoral comm?

New Zealand, but for hydro electric gentailers which pay dividends in excess of actual profits earned rather than invest in new generation capacity as they are secure they can just bilk the (usually meek and compliant) NZ consumer dry.

The Luxon Govt’s bonkers plan to build 17 Big New Roads that we don’t really need will cost us at least $44 billion.

That’s enough to rebuild Dunedin Hospital 23 times over or to massively improve public transport and cycle infrastructure in all our cities. #nzpol

Utter shades of “Cyclone Alfred” in Brisbane City which sent everyone home from the CBD, shut down rail networks, diverted planes, for 3 long days, and it ended up being a damp squib.

Gold Coast OTOH, was hammered, where life continued apace with minimal shutdowns.

Metservice alerts see-saw.

New Zealand needs to

Utterly repudiate capitalism and acknowledge that in 40 years of following the Hayek prescription, it has not worked, will not work, and leaves everyone worse off
October 21, 2025 at 11:35 AM
New Zealand needs to

Remove the party vote, have 127 electorates, and change the electorate vote system to STV.

It’s ridiculous someone can win an electorate seat under FPTP on 28% of the vote.

New Zealand needs to

Implement free GP visits for all NZ citizens.

Stop directing people to ED.

If it’s a cut that a bandaid is all that’s needed, a GP can charge for visit (seriously, I’ve seen people at ED for a simple knife cut that a bandaid would heal).

New Zealand needs to

Implement national minimum standards for apartments

Basically, a 1 bedroom (that can fit a queen bed with 2 side tables at 10sqm) must have a minimum of 45sqm living space

The number of bedrooms increases the living space. So a 2bedder should have a minimum 110sqm footprint

New Zealand needs to

Institute a land value tax of 50% on undeveloped commercial land

100% if it’s used as carparking only

Carpark buildings non-exempt unless they have apartment buildings on top to increase accommodation numbers
October 21, 2025 at 11:28 AM
New Zealand needs to

Set up a long term public infrastructure fund.

Use pension funds (local and overseas) to invest in public transport

Ensure local ownership

Use investment to increase route frequency, offer dividends

And upgrade rail
