Psychologists & related fields: what is a big methods question that you believe remains somewhat unanswered & that you'd love to see adressed? There may be an opportunity for a large-scale meta-science project with many teams trying to figure out a question.

Any thoughts welcome! #psychscisky

Trump is now calling for the arrest of elected representatives checking his power.

What else is left on the path to full-blown authoritarianism?

Memory problems will change how you see the world...literally 👀

Across two new papers, we examined the eye movement patterns of younger adults, older adults, individuals with mild cognitive impairment, and amnesic cases.

Not to mention the terrible effect on universities and research…

You can't have a successful economy by kowtowing to bigots who want to close the country to the rest of the world. It'd be nice if a politician had the brains or guts to point this out.

Wilful ignorance of how trade and migration actually work in a globalised economy.

The idea that the (short and long-term) movement of people -especially between India and the UK - has nothing to do with trade and investment is (obviously) wrong.

Education isn’t zero sum - why are so many in Labour @teamlabouruk.bsky.social down on universities and allow HE to be run down as if that helps those who would not go to Uni - we need to support apprenticeships and FE and HE because all are vital!

No idea what this is supposed to mean. The 50% target doesn't exist and nothing in the Gove reforms said more people had to go to university. It's a demand led system.

Burnham says he never supported the 50% university "Blair target", which became "hardwired" by Michael Gove's reforms

New book— just got my copy! I know people often don’t read book chapters but I think that’s a mistake. They are usually much more reflective and wide ranging than journal articles.

This looks important for anyone wanting to define ROIs in lateral PFC…
caterinagratton.bsky.social
The lateral prefrontal cortex 🧠— which we think of as critical for goal driven behavior + is a target for psychiatric treatments— is fundamentally different in individuals relative to the group averages we’ve often studied.

Image of brain networks in a group average and individual LPFC. Individuals show:
1) smaller FP network
2) more interdigitation
3) conserved motifs
4) idiosyncratic features
This was validated with task and rest fMRI

REMINDER to PLEASE vote in the consultative ballot on the 25/26 pay claim!
matildaf.bsky.social
#UCU members: please vote in the consultative ballot (unique voting link should be in your inbox by now).

Personally, I am going to vote to reject the offer, and vote No to willingness to participate in industrial action (IA). Here are a couple of reasons why:

Ok #UCU folks, the consultative "ballot" is out from @ucu.org.uk.

Please participate! It will likely have a strong influence on HEC's next steps.

My personal vote is to vote to reject the offer but say No to willingness to participate in industrial action. (I will if it happens.)

It cannot be sugar coated.
