Grateful for the local LTE writer who revealed that the reason for east/west disparities in alexandria is just bc the west end doesnt organize enough and we should all join our civic associations to solve the problem

[warning: library nerd rant] They did this in Milwaukee, with 93 affordable units over a new library.

What I like about the Milwaukee project and others like it is that in addition to creating affordable housing, it helps remove a significant barrier to accessing library services- transportation.

I think framing it specifically around capital projects that aren’t already funded would help. “Get it now with housing, or keep waiting until who knows when”

Schools are also a specifically touchy subject, & governed by a body that doesn’t need to weigh other city priorities

Could we build market housing above other uses too, and use rents to fund those services?

Interesting conversation re: housing embedded in here. Bagley & Greene advocating for more capital toward housing, & McPike pointing out that housing is one thing the private market can provide unlike some services.

(Of course, those perspectives aren't mutually exclusive)

An under appreciated benefit of smartphones is now accessible they’ve made transit. Prior to having one I could not keep enough of the WMATA map in my head to use buses. Now I use them all over town.

L for always specifies “play kpop demon hunters IN ENGLISH” despite this being the default. I think our nanny played Spanish versions once?

That confuses the speaker, and it plays a weird awful cover version of the songs. That’s when she gets rude and I have to intervene 😅
