For those less interested in lawns, I did make the most delightful discovery when cutting the grass back: we have tiny (wild?) strawberries hidden in amongst the lawn, begonias, & overwhelming weeds.

Spare a thought for poor @ajacobs.bsky.social - I had to inform him today that, unbeknownst to him, his wife has apparently transformed into a stereotypical suburban white dad, as I now not only have 3 pairs of New Balance sneakers, but also took great satisfaction & pride in mowing the lawn.

It's not even officially summer yet and I've already managed to give myself a wicked sunburn working in the yard today. 😢

It is always such a delight to go to a concert & find a new (to you) act that you really like. That happened to me decades ago w/ Autolux (opened for NiN) & Faker (Smashing Pumpkins, I think), but also recently w/ Ho99o9 (Dillinger Escape Plan) & last night w/ Secret Chiefs 3 (Blood Incantation).

The view of the moon out of our back window is pretty spectacular tonight. There are some fairly picturesque clouds giving it a great atmospheric vibe, but my phone's camera doesn't readily pick it up through the window.

Does anyone else occasionally have to fight off the overwhelming desire to lie down on the floor or is it just me?

For those keeping track, the meeting went well, now we just have to see what's possible within the uni assessment framework. I really hate having to ask for allowances to be made for me, but it seems that's my fate. I'd rather suffer that than not complete my thesis, though, so that's something.

Oh yeah, & I have to try not to trauma dump on my supervisor, too. She's not my therapist. That's a fine line when you're worried about being believed.

I have an appointment with my thesis supervisor today & I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous. One of the side-effects of late-diagnoses ADHD is that you expect no one will believe you when you explain why you haven't kept to an imposed timeline, even when you're telling the truth. Even if...

I felt this, deep in my bones.

There's something very touching about my mum handing me wooden items she uncovered when clearing out the garage & saying, "I don't know what these are, but they looked antique so I thought you'd want them."

I mean, I have no idea what they are, either, but, honestly, the sentiment was spot on.

Wtaf, Fitbit? I'm flabbergasted.

I know this is a long shot, but it's not possible to recover data from a photo disc that appears to be blank, is it? I found one from 2001 this evening & when I put it in the drive it reads as blank, ie 702MB/702MB free, would I like to burn this blank disc? I've no idea how it could've been wiped.

We engaged professional packers for two days of our moving odyssey, and I know there are those of you who will especially appreciate the contents labelling they applied to this box. 🤘

How is the move going? I haven't left the property today, and yet...

After being up since 0500 & working in the heat to be ready for the penultimate movers, I just want to lie in bed & read my book, but I can't, & it's so unfair.

"My tetanus shots are up to date," I repeat to myself as a protective talisman whilst I bind in polystyrene jagged antique saw blades rendered rusty by decades of neglect.

Me: "I want to take the brass stuff off the front porch."

Mum: "What brass stuff?"

"You know, with the walking stick."

"Oh, is that still there?"
Moving after 40 years of being in the same place is hard. You just get so used to seeing stuff in places that it's easy to overlook it as something you need to pack, or deal with somehow.

I discovered on Friday that the reason why the clothesline "included" w/ our new house didn't work was because someone chose to sever all the lines. It's a retractable clothesline, or was. I just... I have so many questions.

This old article only showed up in my feed yesterday. I esp. loved the intersection of art & science, & the quote "Science is a hunch followed by passion” really resonated w/ me w/ regards to how I approach my research in history. I feel others of you may enjoy it also.

In other news, I managed to get an ocular migraine today for the first time in a couple of years, which made me lose 2 hours because I simply couldn't see. I don't have 2 hours I can afford to lose right now. There are antique chainsaws to pack. I wish I was kidding.

My mum said to me tonight "We have so much stuff!", & I had to remind her that whilst it's largely her & me packing it up (w/help from Aaron when he can), it's not just 2 people's stuff. Sure, it's my stuff, & her stuff...

Also, huge shout out to @gordongoodenough.bsky.social for helping me change the settings on my camera phone to allow me to take such close-up photos. I am forever in his debt.
Me: "Oh, this is a thrupenny bit."

My mum: "They didn't have thrupenny coins, I'm fairly sure."

Me: "It's three pence, right?"

Mum: "Yeah..."
