I am determined to create a dialogue and facilitate conversations to empower, educate and support change that centres equity and inclusion in the workplace, education and across communities.

And I'll do it one word, or hyperfocus session at a time.

So I've written about it on my shiny new Substack, and shared why I made a promise to stop justifying myself to others, especially when directly linked to my neurodivergence.
Moving beyond "awareness" this ADHD awareness month: What we really need is practical action, tangible suggestions and for you to listen to us...

My autistic friends are not the problem. Neither is taking paracetamol during pregnancy.

The solution? We need to change the narrative so that we all understand inclusion. Listen to those with lived experiences. And implement universal design into policies, practices, systems and services. So ND folk have a place at the table.
September 23, 2025 at 11:31 PM
So the REAL problem? It's systems in society that are not built to include. Its comments from powerful world leaders that puts our awareness, education and understanding back decades.
September 23, 2025 at 11:31 PM
There isn't a sudden influx of ND folk, we're not invading, we've always been here. More of us are just empowered to speak up and challenge years of stigma, discrimination and being misunderstood.

We're finally able to access the learning, that makes everything make sense, so we can fit in, sometimes for the first time in our lives.

We're getting better at understanding what
neurodivergence looks like in women and that it doesn't disappear when we reach adulthood, leading to more people getting diagnosed in their 30's, 40's, 50's and even older.
September 23, 2025 at 11:31 PM
We are now getting better at recognising the challenges ND folk face, finding our tribe and feeling part of communities.

We've had years of awful, inaccurate representation. Non-speaking autistics were hidden away in institutions, and names like "stupid" and even worse (that I don't want to type) were common in education settings.

Phrases like "clumsy child syndrome" and "minimal brain dysfunction" were also used.
September 23, 2025 at 11:31 PM
The real answer is that autism, alongside ADHD and dyspraxia, has been under-diagnosed for years. Especially in women and girls. Autism has been portrayed as things like rain man, and ADHD was linked to hyperactive, naughty boys.

➡️ Research by the Harvard Business review highlighted that neurodivergent teams can be up to 30% more productive.

I know this stuff because I have spent months writing a book about ND inclusion. And I have 36 years of life with a neurodivergent brain.

➡️ According to research by the institute of management, 50% of leaders and managers said they would not employ someone who is neurodivergent citing reasons of incapability and needing to provide extra supervision.
September 23, 2025 at 11:31 PM
Here's some real stats for you:

➡️ 1 in 7 people or 15% of the UK population are neurodivergent.
➡️ 33% of American adults are neurodivergent.
➡️ One research report highlighted that 61% of American respondents experienced stigma or felt misunderstood at some point during their career.

Yet that is exactly what one of the most powerful men in the world has done. This time about autism. And this, quite frankly is scary (and dangerous.)

Trump then cited some numbers that were wildly inaccurate and he seemed to pluck out of thin air.

Publishing Neurodiversity in the Workplace is still one of the best things I have ever done. Feedback makes all the late nights trying to find the right words very much worthwhile.
