Zionism to most Jews (whether or not they are Zionists!) is “Jews should have a place they can’t be expelled from.” Christian Zionists really enforced that that place should be where ancient Israel was because herding all the Jews there is a step towards end times or whatever. 🫠

(By most people I’m probably overstating it, it’s just SO LOUD on social media that existing as a Jew, no matter WHAT you say or believe, means saying something and being constantly challenged/told you deserve to die/told you are personally responsible for stopping Israel which is actual insanity.)

It’s just increasingly clear that most people do not understand Judaism and willfully refuse to try because it complicates their hate/good-vs-evil thinking and thus makes their advocacy actually require nuance and work instead of simple loudness.

And yeah, Jews need to pray in community AND often only have one accessible place of worship. My childhood synagogue was the only option for a huge swath of central Texas Jews for a LONG time. And we famously disagree and debate with one another—it is not a faith of monolithic thinking.

If you’re excusing hate crimes against Jews because “they probably support Israel” you are, frankly, a huge part of the problem! Your hate is not helping stop the genocide, it is fueling the fears that are corrupted and used to justify Israel’s actions!

(I have no patience for people cheering about shutdowns and quipping about “might as well as it won’t change anything.” It very much will for many people, actually! This should not be taken lightly, and it is the Republicans’ absolute failure and fault for throwing their constituents under the bus.)

Government shutdowns make people INCREDIBLY vulnerable. It means workers going without pay and vital services being suspended. And with this admin, it will likely be used as an excuse for more layoffs.

Please look out for and help those most directly affected by this shutdown.
