(Wah, I should have found/read github.com/rust-lang/ru... first. That makes sense and seems like the right way forward, even if i'm sad not to get another user for --output-format=doctests)

(Speaking personally, not for T-Rustdoc) I'm worried about stabilizing something that's over-fitted for the R4L use-case, and would want to make sure it's usable for nextest before stabilization, which probably requires changing rustdoc's output. (Which is the whole point having nightly!)

FWIW, the current design was motivated by the needs of Rust4Linux, who want to compile all the doctests with their own rustc invocation, to run them in kernelspace. R4L has the obvious advantage of only needing this to work for their crates, not any arbitrary crate.
