The State of Texas embarrasses itself once again by showing what BIG GOVERNMENT looks like under our very foolish governor.

They have invaded Illinois. And that is exactly the language the Texas GOP leadership would be using if the roles were reversed.

Welfare farmers are a serious burden on the American taxpayer.
dearlstephens.bsky.social
📌I have HAD it with these damn farmers.
They proudly voted for a racist, con artist, who is now screwing them. They will do it again after he gives them welfare checks they claim to hate so much.
Biden and Democrats actually supported them, and now WE are paying for THEIR ignorance and racism.

6 Surgeons General: RFK Jr is a threat to the health of Americans.

Appointed by every Republican and Democratic President since George Bush Sr, they join with one voice today. My doctor friends around the country agree with them.

Opinion | Six surgeons general: RFK Jr. is a threat to the health of Americans
It was our duty in office to warn of dangers when we found them. We’re doing that again today.

at this point you have to acknowledge that there is no way that these guys don't try to mess with the 2026 midterms. there is absolutely no respect for the legitimacy of the opposition

Stephen Miller: "Eventually elections don’t carry the day because violence beats votes… When we see a muscular response from the federal government, it’s because we’re not going to let violence beat votes."

Is he implying federal intervention determines political legitimacy, not ballots or courts?

Works most of the time. Southern racist politicians have always excelled in using racial hatred to deliver policies for oligarchs.

"Republicans are testing an insidious political strategy: Can they get a majority of voters to oppose programs that clearly benefit American citizens, on the grounds that a tiny fraction of the money might also end up ... helping illegal immigrants?"

Self-destructive nativism. We have to defeat it.
When in Doubt, Blame the Immigrants
No. You’re not experiencing déjà vu. The current Republican government shutdown talking point is the same one they’ve trotted out before.

The self-proclaimed champions of "free markets" are now:

✅ forcing restaurants to change their logos
✅ coercing businesses into giving up 10% equity stakes
✅ threatening sports venues because they don’t like the choice of halftime entertainment

This simply doesn’t happen in a democracy. And we are not one. The spiral of pre-compliance began with Brad Karp, who boasted of his part in destroying democracy (he saved his law firm) and continues unabated.
alongcamejones.bsky.social
Correct. Tx Nat Guard becoming a full-time militia which could not respond properly to the Guadalupe River disaster because it was arresting undocumented immigrants for trespassing. Now going to Chicago to pick up trash.

In a battle between a real leader like Pritzker and a feeble-minded coward like Greg Abbott, I know who I'm betting on.

Raise your hand if you knew in your bones that when the SCOTUS ruled that racial profiling is OK now,

they meant to take away basic Constitutional due process rights from Black people. 🙋🏾‍♀️

Our Founders rebelled against what happened in that apartment complex 2 nights ago in Chicago. Their rebellion led to our founding. Our Founders would be reaching for their muskets right now.

But most Americans today? Bored, distracted, can’t be bothered, big weekend coming up.

“The source told CBS News that [Kash Patel and Dan Bongino] asked for "large, beefy" agents to conduct an arrest of Comey "in full kit," including Kevlar vests and exterior wear emblazoned with the FBI logo.” The leadership of the FBI is now in the hands of infantile psychopaths.
The FBI is weighing an arrest and perp walk for Comey — and suspended an agent for refusing to help, sources say
The FBI is considering carrying out a "showy" arrest and perp walk of the agency's now-indicted ex-Director James Comey, sources tell CBS News.

Some times in America we have the exact right President in office to lead in crucial moments (i.e. Lincoln). But at other times we have the exact wrong President in office (i.e. Andrew Johnson). Today we have the worst President in our history in office at a most crucial moment.

The authoritarianism in the United States right now is founded on the heresy of Christian nationalism. It’s time for Christians to reclaim our democracy and Christianity by denouncing this heresy.

This is such an absolutely disgusting response to the proposed 'compact'. A board of regents/governors that acts this way is operating against the spirit of higher education.

Far more successful when it is a mission-oriented public agency with broad public support than through a private contractor who mostly cares about the public treasure he captures through endless rent seeking.

Steve is correct. UT is never quite up to its amazing potential because politicians drag it down. Let alone, we’d be ranked with UCLA and UMich.

We left Austin (and UT) for personal reasons, not political ones. That said, this story makes me relieved that we got out when we did—and despondent for the future of an amazing institution that played a really important role in my life; and whose students, staff, faculty, and alumni deserve better:
New Trump plan offers UT funding benefits with conditions on academics
The Trump administration named the University of Texas as one of nine schools that can access funding benefits in exchange for demands outlined in a compact.

SCOOP — Pennsylvania prosecutors were alerted to possible voting irregularities by one of MAGA's leading voices against voter fraud. A long paper trail shows Jack Posobiec has been living in Maryland but voting using his parents' PA address for years.

This requires department chairs (for example) to surrender their free speech rights. So much more is objectionable, so much is vague and the compact requires pre-submitting to unclear mandates. UTexas System Board Chairman Eltife’s fawning pre-compliance puts a great university at risk.
