Each phase increases the number it can have on the board and the number summon at once. As soon as it drops below the maximum, its next action becomes summoning replacements. Realizing I could just pound on it during the summon animation helped a lot, once I realized it was predictable

You must have got lucky with the RNG. The only thing that worked for me was whacking it at every single opportunity before it could get all 3 summons out. It really needs a cooldown between summons, there’s no reward for clearing them fast because it replaces them immediately
