A Case of Illness Following a Bite by a Male Lone Star Tick ( Amblyomma americanum Linnaeus) Infected With Ehrlichia sp. and Rickettsia amblyommatis in Connecticut, United States
The lone star tick ( Amblyomma americanum Linnaeus) is a species commonly found in the southeastern U.S., but in recent years its populations have expanded northward, resulting in an increased risk of...

Prevalence of Adverse Drug Reactions: Comparing Crotalidae Immune Polyvalent Antivenoms F(ab')2 and F(ab) in a Galactose-alpha-1,3-galactose (alpha-gal) Endemic Area - PubMed
We demonstrate a substantial incidence of adverse drug reactions and presumed anaphylaxis to crotaline antivenoms in an α-GAL endemic region, with F(ab')2 antivenom associated with more rea...

Perioperative Considerations for a Patient with Alpha-Gal Syndrome Undergoing Cardiac Surgery
Alpha-gal syndrome (AGS) was first described by Commins and Platts-Mills in 2009 as an IgE-mediated allergic reaction to galactose-alpha-1,3-galactose (alpha-gal) residues on nonprimate mammalian tiss...

Not alpha-gal related, but fascinating and like AGS involves both glycobiology and allergy.
FASI investigator, Dr. Robert Anthony discovered that IgE antibodies in people with peanut allergies carry extra sugar molecules—specifically sialic acid & removing that sugar greatly reduced allergic responses.
