At FASI, we unite experts from top institutions to uncover the root causes of food allergies. By bridging immunology and neurobiology, we aim to stop allergic reactions before they start.

Dr. Stephanie Eisenbarth found that the same molecules make the gut lining leaky—allowing more allergen into the bloodstream.

That leakiness may be what pushes a reaction from uncomfortable… to life-threatening.

Her team also showed Zileuton stopped this leak—and prevented anaphylaxis.
FASI Scientific Founder Dr. Ruslan Medzhitov discovered that special gut cells release leukotrienes—molecules that amplify allergic inflammation.

Block those molecules, stop the cascade.

When mice were treated with the asthma drug Zileuton, they were fully protected from food-induced anaphylaxis.
Why do some allergic reactions turn deadly—while others stay mild?

Two new @science.org papers, funded by @FASI and led by our researchers, uncover the gut–immune connection that may hold the answer. 🧵👇

🥜 Food Allergies may start in the Skin, not just the Gut🥜

Damaged skin (as with eczema) can let food proteins in, priming IgE responses that later trigger gut Mast Cells, which drives allergic reactions & anaphylaxis. buff.ly/Nfo06vB
