The first chapter of a story I've been itching to write! Forging New Frontiers is a slice-of-life story where a trainer finds himself suddenly transformed into a Pokemon. He must learn to handle his new form as new threats emerge from the shadows.

I finally finished going through all the beta reader feedback for BYMMS. I wrote ~4,600 words of my own notes on top of all the comments my betas made. I have a lot of work to do for the story, but I'm confident it'll be much better for it.

Excerpt from the book Why We Fear AI by Hagen Blix and Ingeborg Glimmer: “…it shows, though, is how much the thought of something more intelligent has struck real terror into professional hearts. But the terror is not actually about some natural language processing tech-nology, and it is not about machine learning. It is about having mistakenly believed the justification of ‘intelligence’ - and what the fears show is that everyone knows that capitalism marks out some people as legitimately disposable. Most people know that the meritocracy is at least a partial lie whenever we look up the social hierarchy. In the same way, when we look down far enough, we all know that capitalism violently spits people out, cuts them out of society, and marks them as no longer deserving of the status of real (i.e., profitably employable) human beings. We all know this fact because we see it on our streets, where we avert our eyes from people deprived of food, housing, healthcare, and dignity. The fear of artificial intelligence is the fear of that thinly veiled undercurrent of our justifications of social hierarchy, the ever-present if usually unspoken) possibility of marking some people as superfluous to society, because they are superfluous to capitalism. It is the tacit recognition that we live threatened lives, coupled with the desire to forget about that fact again. It is the repressed class consciousness of those who live from a wage, but despise the working class. It's the terrible certainty that, had things gone just a little bit differently, if one had gone to a different school or had a different parent, if some mentor hadn't noticed, or if a family member had fallen ill-any of us could have been where our unhoused neighbor is. For the sake of functioning, those of the middle class must forget these facts: they can shut their eyes, but they shouldn't be surprised when they see the truth still behind closed lids, haunting their dreams and nightmares.”
