one year my mom was away, so my dad was in charge of thanksgiving. My grandpa was newly celiac, so my dad wanted to make gravy with cornstarch, instead of flour. And he kept adding cornstarch, because the damn gravy wouldn't thicken. By the time it had cooled, you could stick a spoon upright in it.
