It’s really hard to describe to people who are not artists how survival mode does *not* inspire creativity, as the myth would have us believe. It suppresses creativity as you try to limit every possible risk – and the opportunities that come with them.

As for Lucas, they're supposed to have a muted palette at first and get more colorful as they open up and grow. Also, I wanted to make their hair less of a pain to draw. All the little flicks in the old design were awful to keep consistent and looking good, so I simplified.

Ambrose and Clove's old designs were kind of monochromatic for the kind of characters they are. Ambrose is a bold and cheerful guy with a loud fashion sense, so his old design was too one-note. Clove is an artistic and whimsical young lady, so I felt she needed more color.

Feels and looks almost exactly like my beloved Shale Replica sketching brush I got from Clip Studio Assets. Which is funny, because Shale Replica was based on the discontinued Shale brush from Procreate. Full circle...

My two favorite new Procreate brushes are that and Pelion. Pelion's a great sketching brush. It's dark, which helps me avoid the urge to push down hard and hurt my thumb, and it has a nice sharpness to its texture. Doesn't have too much line smoothing, either, so it's not "sticky" to use.

Anyway, the new Procreate brushes are pretty great. I can't believe they named three of them after my OCs (JOKE).

For real, though, "Ambrose" may be my new favorite Procreate brush. It is such a fluid, easy-to-use inker with a nice sharp edge. AND it's named after my boy (JOKE, AGAIN).

are they making it though? as in, do you let them? are they allowed to pursue art and the joy it provides? are they creating? its so hard to create nowadays. is your child given the abundance of freedom that creativity offers, or are they stifled by your judgemental mind?
