Dad wanted to live like the Wilderness Family. We all did, except for Mom, who couldn't bear the idea of missing her soaps or idle chatter w friends over the course of several doobies. I romanticized the thrill of running for my life from something wild--something more alive than chattering ladies.
Scooped ash from wood stove, cleaned stove window with ash & water on a paper towel, washed dishes & heaps of laundry. Hauled wood inside. Hauled wood from one pile to the other in preparation for the next haul. Sporadically watching Don't Worry Darling, dachshund at my side. Fire freshly stoked.
