Love this thread. The Apparatus!
duncanweldon.bsky.social
Been to the youngest’s harvest assembly.
Theory: every primary school built pre about 1980 in Britain has some version of this equipment. It is referred to as something like ‘the apparatus’.
No one has any memory of it ever being used.

IMPROVISED OWL PHYSIO
folklorewales.com
Six weeks ago, I picked up a year-old tawny owl with a broken leg off the main road near our home and dropped him off at our nearest vet.

After a few days, I received one of the most bizarre phone calls I’ve ever had, asking “So when are you coming to pick up your owl?” 🧵

Clearly. But it was also probably the only one in the book that had actually been written by a child rather than competitive parents….

Genius. Even greater than my personal favourite from the 1970s Blue Peter book of prize-winning limericks

there was an old old man
who had a big big pan
and when he had it
he caught a rabbit
and made some rabbit jam

The evidence in favour of 20 mph speed limits is overwhelming, cheaper insurance, less emissions, less car crashes, it saves the NHS, Police and councils money. But Gary from Port Talbot's commute now takes 42 minutes instead of 40 so it simply must go.

Amazing! I’m with Zig on the jealous front! Am ok on the scritch front at the moment though, fortunately.

Early morning Mount Fuji. I love the twilight light from the opposite direction of a sunrise, especially with mountains. This was late autumn season, when I saw lots of autumn leaves at the bottom of the lake. Taken with a CPL to make them visible.
