Last month, the Trust had the privilege of offering scholarships to five PGRs and ECRs to attend the Harlaxton #Medieval Symposium. Each YHT Scholar has shared their thoughts on the experience on our #blog, which you can read here: yorkisthistorytrust.org/2025/09/18/y... #MedievalSky #Skystorians

Melvyn Bragg has been one of the last standard-bearers for a really important, and unfashionable, idea: that good conversation, between people who really know their stuff, on complex or difficult subjects, can be fantastic radio - and that the national broadcaster should do this.

I hope it endures.

Melvyn Bragg has decided to stand down as host of In Our Time, the BBC says.

The 2025 Harlaxton Medieval Symposium is over, but not an experience I’ll forget. Thank you again to the convenors, and to @yorkisthistory.bsky.social for a scholarship which allowed me to be part of this exceptional occasion.

It seems like my usual peaceful instrumental music isn't working today, so it's Eurodance. The noise-cancelling is working overtime today...

How did Tolkien write so much?

The answer is he didn't have two-factor authentication for every aspect of his life

There is something inexplicable about my love for maps

This strip map by John Ogilby shows 'The Road From Exeter to Barnstable & Thence to Ilfracomb', and dates back to c 1675.

Can you spot Exeter on the map? 🔍

It’s 2nd December and time for the next festive treat on our #adventcalendar.

The chapel screen is one of only a few original features left from the 15th century chapel.

Here it is in all its sunlit glory.
We are looking at a large room with a stone flagged flor. In the distance there is a chapel with sun streaming through a window casting long shadows on the floor.
