day 8 of #paleoctober2025 masiakasaurus - a unique theropod whose teeth projected forwards instead of straight down, which probably meant it had a specialised diet, maybe fish and other small prey.

#paleoctober2025 day 8 : Masiakasaurus knopfleri !

I usually don't care that much about dinosaurs...but this one: Come from the Cretaceous of Madagascar (and have a malgasy name), is a small relative of animals like Carnotaurus and Ceratosaurus, and have huge teeth at the front going foreward. WTF.

#Paleoctober2025 day 7 paleoart sketch of the extinct conifer Sequoites.

The genus existed until the Miocene, but I chose the Late Cretaceous Sequoites dakotensis so I could include an enantiornithine bird. The juvenile avialan is begging for food from an unseen parent perched atop the conifer branch with a cone and speculative leaves below it. The scene is overcast with fine rain.

Despite its name, this conifer may be more closely related to cypress family (Cupressaceae). Even more strange for us, it's a possibility that it was a deciduous tree, shedding its leaves seasonally.

Hé oui, même sur la plage il peut y avoir des araignées ! Cette petite Zora parallela par exemple, dont la jolie robe à bandes se fond bien sur le sable. #Arachtober

Photographie d'une petite araignée sur du sable. Elle est dans les mêmes tons que le sable, mais avec toute de même un peu de contraste entre ses bandes blanches, beiges et brun foncé. Son corps est plutôt en longueur, assez fin. Ses pattes sont trapues, moyennement longues.

#paleoctober2025 day 6 : Ichthyotitan severnensis !

Triassic ichthyosaurs are quite something, having in their ranks some of the biggest marine vertebrates of all time. Althought this one is only known from partial jaw remains, it's estimated to be nearly 25m long.

Photographie d'une araignée femelle de l'espèce Carrhotus xanthogramma. Il s'agit d'une araignée sauteuse, assez trapue, mais pas de grande taille. On la voit de face, avec ses grands yeux et ses longues soies un peu partout. Ses yeux sont cerclés de orange. L'araignée se tient sur une branche de roncier ou d'une plante apparentée.

Autre photographie du même individu. On voit cette fois l'araignée de dessus, ce qui laisse bien apparaître sa coloration. Le céphalothorax est noir et brun clair. L'abdomen est orange.
