Chicagoan Urbanist trying to improve the Salt Lake suburbs one bike lane or bus route at the time. Village of Addison and the CTA Purple Line's biggest critic.
Here is the timeline of NITA as presented at the Pace Board Meeting Yesterday. Goes into effect in June with the new boards taking over in September. We are still over a year out from transit ambassadors and just starting fare integration.

Hopefully you don't have to wait at the station for long, especially if you're trying to use a UP line.
January 22, 2026 at 1:16 AM
Don't expect station buildings to be open any more than they are on a normal day. If you have to wait at a station with a closed depot, make use of nearby public buildings if possible.

The mid-light crosswalk was clearly inadequate so Millcreek decided the best course of action was to remove it last year. Now someone is dead because of that decision.

@starlinechicago.bsky.social When you are just trying to watch a video about the New York subway and you get jump scared by #BuildTheTunnel

...because none of the proposed sites have direct access to the South Shore Line

Alongside what was already discussed, the UTA also plans to recycle plastic waste bins into new ones for station areas and provide all UTA employees with a year's membership of GreenBike bikeshare to better emphasized multimodal transportation.
January 14, 2026 at 6:04 PM
UTA plans to further reduce green house gas emissions both from tail pipe and energy production alongside reducing energy demands of station and parking lots. It would be great if they separated between the large water use of Park-N-Ride and downtown stations.
January 14, 2026 at 6:01 PM
After a short break we finish with the Sustainability Audit. Footprints are all down along with ridership due to using less damaging fuel sources and energy generation. Total emissions will be done as per-rider-mile to account for the rider mode shift from less efficient cars with added service.

Still lots of time before a possible fare change which wouldn't go in effect until EOY on December Change Day.
January 14, 2026 at 5:41 PM
Now the actual proposed increase of 50 cents bringing fares up to $3. This would apparently increase revenue by almost $6 Million but no mention of ridership changes.
January 14, 2026 at 5:39 PM
Some actual worthwhile comparison is between the fare rates in other cities with similar services provided and UTA being generally the same if not lower
January 14, 2026 at 5:32 PM
The fare rate is being compared to the increase in the price of eggs and milk, but not actual apples to oranges of the price of gasoline which is half of what it was 20 years ago.
January 14, 2026 at 5:32 PM
Subsidy per rider has also doubled, with the changes being more gradual compared to other agencies.
January 14, 2026 at 5:32 PM
And going further along with fares, a discussion on fare rates, which happen every two years. Base fares have been the same sine 2013 with fare box recovery half of what it was prepandemic. This is less due to ridership as that is 90% of what it was then but due to maintenance with a 40% increase.

Now to the discretionary Grants Report. Salt Lake Central's previous grant application for the FRA FSP and a new application for the BUILD (formerly RAISE) grant which is also being decided on the funding amount.
January 14, 2026 at 4:49 PM
Moving onto public comment, mine is about the UTA's headstrong and seemingly selfish push for the Salt Lake Central Project ahead of the WEConnect Study. I am unable to comment on the grants being presented today as the details are in the still yet to be released presentation.
January 14, 2026 at 4:18 PM
At today's UTA Board Meeting and will be posting about it in this thread. I am unable show the presentation as that is still not been made publicly available.
January 14, 2026 at 4:10 PM
Pace's solution to this currently is to just make the entire loop road a flag stop area. There is also no mention of any plans to make the service more frequent or expand service into the late evening or weekend.

Meanwhile Yorktown mall is seeing a reduction more double that from of .019 sq miles of off .082, for a 23% reduction. Note that this is only including the parking within the circle road and the one outside development to keep it in line with the example from The Grove/Stratford.
January 14, 2026 at 5:35 AM
I have calculated the amount of parking lost versus (Blue) what was gained (Red) and there was reduction of .008 sq. miles of parking. Compared to the original area dedicated to parking of .08 square miles it is a reduction of only 10 percent.

First they tried to stack the election, followed by trying to stack the courts, and are now trying to stack the transit agency.
January 14, 2026 at 4:19 AM
My reward for taking transit and riding my bike to work today is that I get to breathe all this in while everyone in their cars making it worse gets to have filtered air on their commute.
January 12, 2026 at 11:24 PM
Good luck getting DuPage specifically to do that as only 3 stations in the county, Elmhurst, Wheaton, and Naperville are hubs for more than one bus route. For now we are stuck using the malls as hubs and hoping they are more used for thru service to connect to rail lines and not terminuses.
