8. This has been a short and honestly rather peevish thread, so if you want read more that has been written in a more equanimous tone, here's a short piece that I coauthored a few years ago, precisely about how we deal with this kind of duplicity.
To Fight Misinformation, We Need to Teach That Science Is Dynamic
Science is a social process, and teaching students how researchers work in tandem to develop facts will make them less likely to be duped by falsehoods

With Tom Lehrer's passing, I suppose this is a moment to share the story of the prank he played on the National Security Agency, and how it went undiscovered for nearly 60 years.

New post:

"Why are young women increasingly left-wing?"

There's been a lot of focus on young men + the right but less on this much bigger political shift amongst young women.

Why is it happening? How could it change politics?

I have decided to post a thread to explain the current situation to BlueSky users outside of Brazil.
Yes, please. :) Anything would help. I'm ignorant. :)

You just arrived to Bluesky a few hours ago? Is that right?

Are you finding people you know? Or want to know?

This paper argues misinfo is broader than false headlines (of course) and that it indeed impacts beliefs (re vaccines). www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

I would add much misinfo spread is the amplification of true but poorly contextualized news that will be interpreted as support for faulty frames.
