Tory, I’m so proud of the way you did this with mana and grace.

The usual suspects from the past tried to make it impossible for you, and you proved them wrong.

That portrait is awesome, and you’re definitely leaving with your head held high!

I still have friends in Welli, right?

I know some of you use the library - drop off your voting envelope there, when you’re taking your books back.

Just make sure to get in there before midday, mmmhmmm? 😏

Wellington. please vote, the city needs you.
According to "Inner-City Wellington" it looks like only around 1 in 5 people have voted! I know you voted, but have you checked on your friends? Link to voting drop box locations.
Maybe a cheeky re-post too.

Sarcasm is our shared love language, Tze Ming.

This govt just keeps on giving, doesn’t it?

Punitive policy, producing perverse incentives:

“…a household which earns $65,528 in a year can bring in an additional $13,942.76 after tax from an 18- or 19-year-old’s Jobseeker payment.

[But] if either of the parents earn one more dollar, the household as a whole loses nearly $14,000 in income.”

A British academic is tracking the Dictator in the WH’s authoritarian acts since taking office in Jan.

It tracks illegalities, unconst’l acts, abuses of power - anything undermining democracy & propping up authoritarianism.

Tally is at 1466 authoritarian acts.

If Nicola Willis thinks we “shouldnt be so precious that we can’t use metaphorical speech” can we go back to why Chlöe Swarbrick was punished so heavily for her comments on the government’s spinelessness?

Today's energy announcement? A damp squib that locks us into expensive fossil fuels while families struggle with power bills.

Sign our petition calling for a 30-year Energy Plan - 350.org.nz/homegrown-en...

Breaking news banner at top with orange and blue sections. Screenshot of RNZ article headline "Government stops short of major energy shakeup, rejects asset sale" by Giles Dexter. Features image of an LNG tanker ship with spherical storage tanks on water. Caption reads "Importing LNG on a small scale in time for winter 2027 is on the table." 350 Aotearoa logo at bottom. Dark teal background with white and orange text. Headline reads "Today's energy announcement? A damp squib." Body text explains government's plan offers band-aid fixes while energy poverty rises, mentions taxpayer money going to LNG terminals and gas fields instead of renewables, and discusses gentailer underinvestment over nearly a decade. Simple icon of an LNG storage tank in bottom right corner. 350 Aotearoa logo at bottom left. Dark teal background with orange quote bubble containing white text. Quote from Alva Feldmeier, Co-Director 350 Aotearoa, criticizing government plan for propping up status quo. Below quote, white text states "NZ has everything it takes to lead the world in renewable energy. What's missing is political will." Lists three demands with bullet points: rapid renewable buildout plus 750MW community-owned energy by 2035, ending energy hardship for 110,000+ households, and real market reform to break up gentailer monopolies. 350 Aotearoa logo at bottom. Orange wavy banner at top reads "Sign the petition!" Below shows petition landing page for "Energy Plan Now" campaign with text about energy crisis and lack of long-term planning. Right side shows petition form with fields for name, email, postal code, city, and country dropdown set to New Zealand. Blue "Sign Petition" button visible. Progress bar shows 971 actions so far, 1,029 needed to reach 2,000. Background image shows misty New Zealand landscape. 350 Aotearoa logo at bottom.

I’m so glad I’m too old to be part of this current sh*show.

I sincerely grieve for your former aspirations in policy development.

David Seymour: “my colleagues are so bad at following proper legislative policy development process that I am creating an entire new legislative policy development process for them to ignore”
Most Government policies skip normal process
Officials are increasingly complaining about constraints when preparing new laws or policies, with time pressures the most common issue.

They always boil down to ‘we can’t afford to coddle the peasants, or there won’t be enough for meeeeeee’

The trickle up is never enough for them. But they forget that ‘working class’ = does the dirty jobs they don’t touch.

/End rant

Before I pop a blood vessel, sheesh.🙄

Scratch those guys and you’ll always find someone who wants the private sector to take over things - despite private (hospitals, for instance) are not doing 10% of the workflow of any given state functions.

The capacity isn’t there. So yeah, the ‘problem’ he sees is too many peasants with needs.

40 years ago, I was in the public service as things started coming apart.
I remember the PSA strike in ‘86, the last time every govt dept hit the streets and marched from civic square to Parlie.

Luxon won’t know what’s hit him.

I hope he knows how to use a toilet brush. No office cleaners!

Green Party's Lan Pham said the docs showed a minister using their position to try to influence a council's legal process "to help out their mates".

She said it’s a "gross misuse of power" that shows how little care the govt has in being "transparent about their conflict of interests."

A short notice protest was called in Ōtautahi Christchurch today when Israel intercepted civilian ships in international waters detaining those aboard, including Aotearoa New Zealand citizens.

Columbia has expelled Israeli diplomats. Aotearoa should do the same
A crowd of people gathers in front of a stone war memorial arch for a protest. Several individuals are holding Palestinian flags, and a large banner with bold black letters is partially visible in the foreground. Some attendees wear backpacks and jackets, and one person is speaking through a megaphone near the arch. The sky is overcast, and a construction crane rises in the background above the trees.

Nothing is right, up there on the 9th floor.

It’s been wrong from the moment Luxon the Christian businessman signed on with Winnie & Seymour.
anarkaytie.bsky.social
And if you knew what the ‘usual’ process of refining public policy looks like, you’d be more horrified.

Rimmer’s taken the whole ‘reflect, refine, revise’ section out of the cycle. Now it’s just

Minister says thing -> becomes policy

Hence upswing in submitting against bad legislation.

Which is particularly venal arrogance from Rennie, as his entire career has been in the public service, at the Government’s expense…
