(shared with permission) ICE/CBP has been active on Chicago's northwest side this morning—and also met with rapid responders.

Agents reportedly abducted one man from this Dunkin at Belmont and Milwaukee around 9:30am before speeding off.

I feel like this photo of masked, armed men pepper spraying a pastor protecting his community is going to be a defining picture of this moment in America for a long, long time.

There's too much to focus on here in Chicago to be on my "Amazon is even worse than you think" soapbox this week, but here's a sample of the ways that they are profiting off of genocide and occupation, both here and abroad. Kill the cop on your doorstep (your Ring camera).

idk that this ever got shared here, but the last few years we've made some little zines in honor of a certain day named for a number indivisible by other numbers. tbh I did not have the bandwidth to update it this year, but these two remain relevant. Check out our website for citations.
"What Amazon is doing to us. a digital zine from Skunk Cabbage Books." We all know by now that Amazon is bad for small businesses, especially indie bookstores like us. Amazon's model, on the surface, looks like this - Amazon sells books at the lowest possible prices because they're willing to sell them at a loss to get their consumers into higher margin products like Kindles, Alexa devices, Ring cameras, and Prime accounts. We know Amazon doesn't really need to sell books. We want to dig deeper into why they bother and how Amazon hurts not just small businesses, but our entire communities. On the surface, Amazon's model looks like selling cheap books at a loss to lure people into higher margin tech, like Kindle, Alexa, Audible, Prime, and Ring. But the higher margin items still aren't the product - you are. The consumer Amazon cares about isn't us, it's the companies that will buy all the data Amazon is collecting about you. Our privacy is the most profitable product. Amazon relies on our government's disinterest in protecting our privacy and surveillance devices like Ring cameras and Alexa devices to farm your data. The data is the part that's really profitable, especially when Amazon sells it to agencies like law enforcement. On the smaller scale, Amazon has sold data from people's Ring cameras to local police without any notification or permission from the camera owners. On the large scale, Amazon's tech and data models power models that allow governments to enact mass surveillance and policing. Tech contracts make up a huge portion of ICE's budget and Amazon is using their tech and your data to help ICE surveil, track, and deport our neighbors. ICE's surveillance system pays Amazon approximately $600,000 a month to power their tech.

Just a reminder! If you're buying books in support of #BannedBooksWeek buying from Amazon undercuts the broader project of social justice supporting the right to read is a part of. Get your banned books absolutely anywhere else!
Amazon is the invisible backbone of ICE’s immigration crackdown
Lobbying dollars and a cozy relationship with the government have given the tech giant an outsize influence in the Department of Homeland Security.

Oh cool. I might have an extra 100-200 by then…but depends on shipping times…and since I have a conflict Friday would have to coordinate a different drop off time. Maybe best for me to keep working on my own, and contribute if there’s a round 3

#GrumpyPolitics This is why you draw your own personal line ahead of time. What is your personal line in the sand? It's going to vary for everyone, but if you don't draw it, you don't know.

Draw your line in the sand, and make a plan for what you are going to do if someone crosses it.

People keep waiting for "the thing," some kind of bright line that makes it all clear. There's already blood in the water. Clarity isn't coming anytime soon.

Statement on Abuse of Power of ICE and Other Federal Agents in Chicago
Black text on white background

Statement on Abuse of Power of ICE and Other Federal Agents in Chicago
On October 3, 2026 Alderwoman Jessie Fuentes (26th) witnessed ICE agents attempting to detain a patient at a clinic in her ward - a patient seeking medical care after ICE allegedly used excessive force and broke his leg. When Ald. Fuentes asked the agents for an arrest warrant - a basic constitutional requirement - they refused and instead unjustifiably put her in handcuffs.
Showing a warrant before detention is not optional; it's a cornerstone of constitutional law. And yet,
ICE agents continue to ignore this requirement.
This is not new, nor is it an isolated incident. ICE agents continue to violate civil liberties with impunity, and if we continue to allow this erosion of due process to go unchecked, we risk undermining the foundation of our democracy.
Due process is not negotiable. We will not stay silent. We must stand together to demand accountability. What's playing out day-by-day is a warning that we must organize and not relent.
Speak out and show up. Go to ICE watch trainings. Learn your rights so you can protect the rights of those around you.
And we, as members of the City Council hold firm that it will take a coalition all of us, united across racial and ethnic communities, political leanings, ages and socioeconomic status, to stand up to the disturbing pattern of abuse from ICE and the federal government, and the complete disregard for the rights we hold as Americans. They don’t want you to compare them to the Gestapo, but this is how they act. I’ve seen this agent get violent a few times now. I believe he’s also the agent who has been spotted driving an ICE vehicle with a Mexican flag on the hood.

Chaos in Brighton Park. This is representative of the amount / direction of pepper and smoke sent into the neighborhood, in this case, for no reason I can discern other than because they were leaving. Feds had a clear path out in a different direction, and residents were vocal but not violent here.
