Finally felt like fall today in Chicago.
A scattering of sea gulls flies off into the horizon over Lake Michigan as the sun sets on the north side of Chicago. A small observation tower at the end of a pier rises over the green grass and gold flowers in the foreground.

There’s a lot in here that deserves a pull quote, but this is the most egregious. I need people to recognize the gravity of the situation here in Chicago;

"The ones that are getting out are coming home to no home," Watson said.
According to her, after the raid occurred, building management stole or threw out residents belongings, including visas and important documents.

ICIRR is still trying to determine the identities of all the people detained in the raid. Castro said that the organization usually can do that by following up with family members or loved ones. "In this instance, there was nobody left to work with," she said. The only detainee name they're sure of is that of a person who passed their Venezuelan passport to a neighbor as they were being taken away.

Streets are still closed off in front of the Portland ICE facility at 8:30pm. Protesters have gathered on a side street. Dance party in progress.

It’s been quite amazing to watch people call on CPD (of all entities) to fight on behalf of the oppressed. There is a reason why we don’t see police leading revolutions. They are a function of the state and will give deference to the feds, as required by law. youtube.com/shorts/WDHFe...

I know there's a lot to keep up with but someone has ALREADY been killed by ICE in Chicago, its not a theoretical question, and folks are dying in ICE detention and being disappeared constantly, when you say "someone's gonna get killed" youre actually washing the blood from their hands 😘✌️

One protester said they had a meeting with the city and police, worked out a deal on the tents. Two protesters remain at Beach and Lexington, cops said they’re leaving them alone so long as they aren’t actively protesting or shouting in the street.

State cops just made everyone exit the roadway, and saying they have to be in free speech zones.

“If you guys start fighting you will go to jail” one trooper says to anti-ICE protesters as they move the counterprotester from a sidewalk on the other side of the street to the same side as protesters.

I’m here at Broadview about 10 minutes ahead of the city’s curfew. A lone counter protester is shouting back at them. State police are hanging out in their cruisers.

The papers w/ orange triangles are "demo bags" taped up over the windows of one of the holding cells. They had no problem showing men detained in the room to the right, but clearly didn't want anyone to see the people or conditions in the other cell. Or didn't want them to see out.

This is from a video on X, showing inside the Broadview ICE facility when Noem was in town on Fri.

For context, she's in the central room with 15 workstations setup to process detained individuals, whether they were arrested by immigration enforcement or at protests.

See the orange triangles?
Kristi Noem inside the ICE facility at 1930 Beach St. in Broadview, IL. She is standing near a white man, smiling at a desk with a computer monitor and printer. Behind her is a cell door with a man looking out a narrow slit window. Next to him, three or four other men are seen through a larger window in the cell.

Behind the white man are two upside down "demo bags" taped up over the windows to another cell.

I feel like I am losing my mind from the constant sound of explosions and rockets…

The bombing never stops every minute, Israeli warplanes launch a new series of strikes.

The situation here in Gaza is catastrophic and extremely dangerous.

Just saw someone slamming people for posting about sports during a moment of national democratic collapse, so I wandered over to see what they've been posting about, and it turns out that it's a lot of open advocacy for the commission of federal felonies.

Yeah, posting about sports is preferable.

Part of what's extraordinarily broken about this situation is that Bsky made a big point of being hypercommunicative and it now seems like the org was being selective about that -- when it has actively made an effort to be very transparent and then when it has done the total opposite

One of the things that brings me the greatest despair in authoritarianism is watching people react to state violence the way they react to domestic violence.

By justifying anything and everything the perpetrators does through blaming a victim for failing to be submissive enough.

We are here because policing in the U.S. has been this way for generations. This is why ICE acts with impunity. They know they can act this way.
