BLOOD publishes today! 🧛🏻‍♂️🦇🌕🩸 I’m feeling as if I’m on a rollercoaster, speeding (and looping) through several different emotions, the most prominent of which are fear and incredulous happiness. But I’m also proud of BLOOD and can’t wait for you to read it or listen to it.

Writing is a solitary activity, it's often said, but it's also an ecosystem—I really believe this. So thank you to all writers who were kind enough to find time to read and say something nice about BLOOD, and of course, thank you to who's reading! I hope you'll enjoy some on BLOOD's strange vistas!

Things are powerfully bad right now, bleak business in and around every corner, so I feel like I need to counterbalance just a little, just a touch, with a daily nature pic for a while. So today's pic is a cheeky little red-eyed vireo in a magnolia tree. Photo by me.
A slowly bowed branch by a roofline is framed by the green leaves of a magnolia tree, which was a tree I once thought only grew in the south but that's silly. On this branch sits a bird -- a red-eyed vireo, which is a kind of greige bird, still pretty, with a dramatic eyeliner mask across its (not apparent here) red eyes. Its beak is small but mighty, ready to peck out a fascist's eyes. It has a yellow ass. Just a yellow ass, right there for all the gods and all the children to see, under its tail. The yellow ass is facing you. Can an ass face you? I dunno. Either way, the bird is looking over its shoulders -- do birds have shoulders? shit -- with a cheeky little "oops I did it again" vibe. And I have no idea what the bird did except steal and eat berries from the magnolia tree. Perhaps that's a bird crime, but I don't care, eat the berries, bird, that's why they're there. Wait, where is my wallet? (photo by me, Chuck Wendig)
